Quantum vs Abu Garcia

Featured Replies

Which one is better, the quantum tour edition pt, or the abu garcia revo premier? I like them both. I love abu garcia but i cant take my eyes off of the quantum. please help!!!! :'(

I have not used any quantums since the original energys so I cant help there.  But I do know the Revo's are very good reels.  I have a couple of each including the premire and it is a sweet and reliable reel.

If your choices are narrowed to them two reels, I would suggest the Revo sx.

thanks for your help. What exactly do the bearings do for the reel when it comes to the number of bearings that are in them.

I don't proclaim to be any expert, but from what I have learned here, it's not the bearing count, but the bearing quality.  Check out the bearing count on the curado.  Not sure, but I believe it's either 4+1 or 5+1.  You can get reels for $30-40 with the same bearing count but they are not quality and  will most likely go shot in a short time with heavy fishing.  No so with the curado.  Same with the revos and their bearing count.  Find a cheap reel with a high bearing count and stack it up against a revo.  They won't hold out.

Revo Premier hands down

The number of bearing is misleading as some manufactures count the bearings in the paddle handles and other places that have nothing to do with how well a reel casts or retrieves.

I use both Quantums and Revos  I would have you look at the Revo SX as it is light weight, has magnetic brakes, 11 bearings and a good drag system.  At around $159 it is a great buy for the bucks for an all around reel.  If you are more interested in a reel for crankbaiting I have used Quantum's for years and never had a problem with one yet.

Can't go wrong with either.

I think Quantum will cast a bit further and Revo is beefier.

Buy both and send me the loser.  :)

I will admit, this is going to be an Abu biased post.  I have always fished Abus, and up until the Revos came out, their low profile stuff wasn't anything to write home about, however the Revo series is SWEEET.  I have 2 SX's, 2 S's, and the Revo Inshore.  If you like the magnetic brake then definitely the SX or STX or Premiere.  However if you are a Centrifugal Brake fan then the S is hard to beat.  After all of those years throwing the big 5600's I feel more conformtable casting the S for distance, I mainly use the SX's for my pitching.  I use the Inshore for my cranking.  Sorry so long, but I just love the Revos, the Quantums are very nice as well, but I did mention, I am a little biased.

Did you seriously just say that a Premier(6.35 0z) is heavier/beefier than a Quantam tour pt (9-10 oz)?!?!?!?!

Sorry I just thought that was funny

BTW if your talking about the 2009 tour pt

I apoligize

I read it as "Beefier" as being more able to take abuse/more cranking power.  Not beefier=weight.

Of course he meant beefier as in built more solid.  Didn't see where he said heavier.

thats how i took it as well.

Are you speaking of the '09 Quantum?  If so, I like that quantum scaled back on the line capacity; that will improve casting ability (plus...who needs 150yds of line?).  That is about all I can add  :)

Abu > Quantum

How bout you do this -

Go to your local tackle store . pick up a display reel of each brand - and deciede what you are more comfortable with . And this is coming from a guy who is a Quantum fan - but I still have a few Diawas and an Abu .

No matter what anyone says - the choice of reels is up to you
