Input on a Rod

Recommended Posts

Thank you all for the responses about the reels I asked about but now I'm looking into a rod for the reel :D I found this but haven't heard much about them yet so was wondering if any of you have tried the new Berkley Lightning Shock casting rods and what you think of them.

For around two bills there are a few great options out there.  I'd take the Revo over the Flooger, but that's just MO.  The Revo STX would make a fine all-around reel.  For one that will cover several techniques, I'd go with the 6.4:1 Revo over the high-speed version.  The IPT of the former is 27, and should cover most applications really well.  Again, JMO.

If you are looking for a more finesse-orientated casting reel, the Chronarch Mg can be had for under your stated budget.  This would really cover plastics, small to mid spinnerbaits, topwater, and shallow to mid cranks very well.  Basically anything but deep-divers, big spinnerbaits, and slop work.

If you fish heavier baits/cover most of the time, I'd go with the Revo or Curado E.  If not, I'd go with the Chronarch mg.  Hope this helps.

I have never fished with an STX but have fished an SX and the brakes on it are picky....not sure about the STX though....but I do have 2 Pflueger Patriarchs and would say they are the way to go....with the dual braking system you can set the centrifugal brake and then use the magnetic to fine tune....as of now I have had only one backlash and that was due to a break off on the cast.  For the most part I don't need to thumb my casts and rarely use the magnetic brake.

The revos have a smoother retrieve but the Patriarch is much easier to cast
