I use a 7' 1/4-1oz Avid st. croix for my jig rod. I've been using it for a few years now and I love it. Its a great rod for the money. I use braid with a flouro leader, it really helps with the sensitivity.

It is a MH and a one piece. One piece is better for sensitivity and durability. I also like the powell 734 casting rods.

I like a longer rod for fishing jigs/worms.  I have a 7'1" mh G. Loomis mossyback and also same rod in a hvy action.

For me the short rods just feel odd to me. I don't think either length is bad, I just prefer the 7'

Personally, I use a 7'H Kistler Magnesium for that application.  with te larger worms and jigs, I like the extra power of a H rod

Rods I use for jigging and worming:

GLoomis CR722

GLoomis CR723

GLoomis CR724

GLoomis MBR783

GLoomis MBR785

Power rating I select to fish a particular body of water do not depend on lure weight, they depend on the ammount and type of cover.

For fishing wood or where there are emergent weeds like reeds ( tules, cattails ) I choose the more powerful ones: CR724, MBR785

For lesser cover or weeds the choose the less powerful ones: CR722, CR723, MBR783.

My rigs:

For jigs and big or weighted worms:  BCR854 and MBR844C

For all weightless soft plastics: St. Croix ES70MF
