I have primarily been a braid with flouro leader fisherman, this year I decided that I was going to change up some of my setups to straight hybrid and flouro....which honestly scares me because I have tried this in the past only to have regretted my decision.  

so with that being said I have 2 questions. First I recently spooled a bait caster with Ultra soft #10, which is primarily going to be used for throwing jigs and some flipping and pitching around wood and weeds.  The line seems to be a bit thick and stiff to me and I was wondering if I should have gone to #8 for this application?  Does anyone use #10 ultra soft on a bait caster and what has been there opinion?  

The second question is with color, the clear line was sold out so I pick up the ultra soft in mist green.  The "green" color is real light and looks like it will blend in great under water however, again I have never used this and the thought of any color on my line is somewhat unnerving so any feedback positive or negative would be appreciated.

I see why you have trouble with anything but braid...  Sounds like you need to stick with braid.  If it works well, why change?  Even the best lines in #10 are just too light for flipping and pitchin, IMO.

I use #12 on all my baitcast setups. never had a problem. I also treat all of my spools with KVD conditioner.

I fish #12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft. The original formula

blends better with water, in fact, it's virtually invisible. However, for

your purposes I agree with flechero, braid is probably a better choice.

The vast majority of my fishing is on and around structure in open

water, not cover or timber. Try 50/12 braided line, I think that will

help.

Thanks for the responses.  I understand why people may ask "why make the switch if you are pleased" however for a lousy $8 I figured let me try something out to see if I like it or not.  I can always switch back to braid at anytime if need be.  

For heavy cover, keep the braid.  In open water or just bank beating, go with a 12lb line.  As for the color, if the water you fish has a green tint then you should be fine.  Aroud here with green water, cx and cxx p-line in moss green seems to work well.

+1 on the KVD Line and Lure Conditioner. Spray it on the night before so it's dry when you start fishing. You'll notice a big difference in how manageable your line is. It was developed specifically for flourocarbon and braid, although it works great on all lines. Since it  bonds to the line with a polymer coating, it will actually make your line last longer, because the coating will wear before the line does. This will keep you from having to buy expensive braid and flourocarbon as often.    

Ten pound is too light for really heavy cover, even for small bass. I you are fishing heavy cover, stick with braid and a fluoro leader. Moderate cover can be fished with 10 - 14 pound test line though. In open water, even 6 pound test is enough for bass.
