I am trying to figure out which types of lures can be used on the same rod... here is what i was planning on doing but want to make sure they make since to someone else before me.  i would like to have 2 uses out of each setup just because i dont think i need 100 setups since i am only able to really fish on weekends and dont fish tournaments.  just for pure enjoyment...

jig and worm together 7'3'' mh with 7 speed reel

crankbait/jerkbait not sure length but medium with moderate fast action and 5 speed reel

top water/spinnerbait heavy or medium heavy moderate fast and 6 speed reel

OR...........

spinnerbait/jig and worm together 7'3'' mh with 7 speed reel

crankbait not sure length but medium with moderate fast action and 5 speed reel

top water/jerkbait heavy or medium heavy moderate fast and 6 speed reel

I dont want a dedicated spinnerbait rod because i have never caught a fish on a spinnerbait, but want a rod that is decent with them.

My standard line advice:

Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test)

Baitcasting gear: Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb test)

Note:

When I'm fishing from a boat, I ALWAYS want to have certain

baits/ lures rigged: Jig, soft plastic, crankbait, spinnerbait and

usually a jerkbait.

I don't know about everyone else, but I like using a higher speed reel for jerkbaits than you have listed to pick up slack line quicker, and a lower speed reel for spinnerbaits.

All my rods are multipurpose, all are fast action but with different power rating, so for example if I want to finesse all I do is to tie my lure to my lowest power rating rod, which will have the lowest line test.

Worm/Jig/Spinnerbait: MH XF

Crankbait: M M

Top Water/Jerkbait: M F

well from reading through RW's post i guess this is what ill go with ... seems like it should work and all of them with yo-suri hybrid 12lb

since i am not fishing for tournaments i dont mind taking off lures and tying on new ones ... just want the power and actions to match up with the lures pretty good

This is a more general reply:

All your fishing can be done with one rod, but beyond that,

there are only three rods that you "need".

1.  7' Heavy Power/ Fast or X Fast Action Baitcaster

   Jigs, C-rig, T-rig and medium weight swimbaits

2.  6 1/2" Medium Power/ Moderat Action or Fast with a soft tip

   All medium weight treble hooks, spinnerbaits and buzzbaits

3.  7' Medium Power/ Fast or X Fast Action Spinning Rod

   All weightless soft plastics

Then the fun begins! Later you'll end up buying a rig specifically

for every technique, with overlap and duplication. You will never

have enough or too many. Oh! and along the way there's always

UPGRADE.

would these setups make sence ... i know like RW said you can use application specific setups or one rod and reel for everything... but just tryin to have setups that make sence.  i think these do but just trying to have semi specific setups

Roadwarrior....I didn't know you finally bought a BCR.  I knew you were looking for an 854 a while back, I guess I didn't know you hooked up with one.  I love me some black foam (zillions and Steez  8-)),  but the fact remains that the BCR is the pinnacle of sensitivity.  The recoils coupled with the tuned glx blank makes just a stupid sensitive rod.  Anyone who doesn't agree is kidding themselves.  Now if they will just make a split-grip version, I'll buy another one fo' sho'.

I picked up the rod from one member and a CH50MG from another.

I think all parties were satisfied with the deals, I am.
