What is you guys' oppinion on Uglystik rods?

Do you all love them, hate them, or have no opinion?

why?

The most favorable comments suggest keeping the Ugly Stik

for fishing treble hook or other "moving lures" where sensitivity

is less important. For jigs and soft plastics, you'll want something

else.

It's whippy & too heavy for freshwater use, I did catch a 12# jack crevelle on it.

Some of the ugly sticks are better, look for one with ceramic guides, the ones I have are rusting or just put clear nail polish on them from time to time.  Personally, in the same price range I might go with a shimano clarus, I have 6'6 m 6/12 and it's a very good rod, other sizes availble as well about $59.95

theyre ok rods. most of my previous rods were uglys.

i sold one of them with two reels for $20 to a co-worker that wanted something to hold him over till he recovers from his tackle getting stolen.

on one of them , the insert (i think thats what its called) fell out of one guide and the tip. now its useless.

i still have my 7' MH ugly , and it has held up fine.

and i recently bought a 5'UL ugly stick lite. its an OK rod and does its job , but it is very whippy.

id suggest the clarus , or the new voltaeus which is supposed to be 'shimanos ugly stick' and is a few bucks more than the uglys. the warranty is a huge plus as well...

I love ugly sticks for cranking rods or topwater rods. You want a stiffer rod however for plastics. The ugly stick lites are great, I have three of them.

There are other rods in the same price range that I'd spend my money on. I just got rid of one. Too heavy for me.

I agree stay away from ugly sticks there not bass fishing rods there rods for people who dont care about there rods as they are so whippy you almost cant break one lol.

Haha.  I've got one that I haven't used in years but whichever poster complained about the weight I can agree.  Dang thing tired my wrist out after a few hours fishing.  It was a 7 footer

Never liked ugly stiks.  They're like a willow branch. Save another buck or two and get something else.

truth be told, most catfish around here are caught on a 5000 series abu strapped on an uglystick.

for that, they work extremely well.

Uglysticks are definitely not my first choice... in fact I only own one by accident.  I use it for catfish, and in that case it doesn't really matter.  For the most part i do stick to light action rods.  Right now im using a BPS microlite (md lite action) on a saros 3000, could not imagine putting an ugly stick on this combo.

I think they are better salt water rods than anything else.

Too many other decent rods in that price range.

They're a decent braid rod. Maybe.

I have a good friend who uses a 5'9" ML Ugly Stick Lite w/ PowerPro for river smallmouths and loves it. It's also nice when we anchor up on hole and put the bottom rigs on with a fresh fish fillet, soft craw, or crawler for whatever will bite...

That being said, I don't own one. Except a long surf model I used to use for catfishing. They're really not bad for bait-fishing.
