Best Daiwa Baitcaster for < $150?

Featured Replies

I'm a newer bass fisher and I'm looking to put together a decent all around type rig. I don't really have the cash to put 6 or 7 rigs together for a fishing arsenal.

I would like to get a baitcaster and it seems that most of you agree that Daiwa's are hands down the best. But are they only the best if your holding a Steez? What's the best Diawa B/C for less than $150? Or is there a better way to go for that kind of money?

If you could add another 50, a Viento wouldnt be a bad reel at all. On ebay you could probably get one for around 150 new. Dont rule out used reels either. I was fortunate enough to get a Fuego for 180. The drag needed to be worked a little but other that that it has perfomed flawlessly.

Here is my worthless .02....

You want Daiwa quality?  You'll get it for $100 in the Cabela's Prodigy baitcaster (made by Daiwa). It is the same thing as a TD-A Tierra and will work great for you.

There is no need to spend $150 or more when just starting out.  Heck, I've been fishing bass over 40 yrs and this reel is all I really need.  It is very close in performance to my Revo SX and a equal to my TD-A HST153.

not a daiwa but you can prob find a shimano curado 200e7 for $150.

I would go with one of the TD-A variants. For another $19 you could get the Team Daiwa Advantage HSTA. By all accounts, an excellent reel. People seem to hold it high regard for its ability to cast light baits.

Another choice (and you'll save $50) is the Daiwa Black Widow II. It's a rather limited edition reel that not only looks cool, but apparently performs very well.

Edit:  I agree with Skunked_Again

If you have used spinning gear for any length of time, you may want to consider a reel with a left hand retrieve.  I personally found cranking with my left hand was too distracting.

You're in dangerous ground implying that Daiwa are the best reels.  There's quite a large "Shimano Posse" here.   ;D ;D ;D

And a few Pflueger Mooks as well   ;)

I just bought the Black Widow II about a month ago.  For the price, it is a great reel.  Not only does it look cool, it is very smooth and feels great in my hand.

The Cabelas Prodigy is a great reel made by Daiwa and even better when you can catch them on sale or clearance. I would check them out and this was my first baitcaster and is still in my arsenal.

153hsta hands down. AWESOME reels!

X2 but the Prodigy is a fine reel also. I have both and am satisfied with them.

Why just Dawia? You ruling out THE BEST reel for under 120 made and it's the Shimano Citica. This reel is awsome. It competes with reels 2 times the price. I think your making a mistake not even considering it.

I agree its a great reel for the price

I own almost all of TD reels. And I really like the TD-Pro. For $120 new and prob less used this i a really smooth reel. You can also get Curado E on fleabay for around $150. Have fished with buddies and seem to be great reels. SMOOOTH! Would also recomend a Revo_SX. Have one that I use for frogs. Its a great reel too. Your options are plentiful IMHO

honestly i use 12 r&r's when i fish, i only have 1 reel that cost 150+. its a revo sx. i own 3 daiwas 2 exelors and 1 megaforce and i love all of them. the exelors are $80 at academy and i absolutley love them. im sure there are better, but i wouldnt know.

Daiwa Advantage Super Tuned, Retail is $180 I believe, but they're all over ebay for $130 shipped to your door.
