What line to put on 7' MH baitcast rod used for all treble hook lures?

Featured Replies

Mono, size depends on what you will be fishing and how deep. but 12# is usually a good all around

Really? Not fluoro? And what pound line? And what brand? And for what uses?

If you are comfortable with fluorocarbon it would be a good option, fish a 10# or 12# depending on if you are going to be fishing structure. its abrasion resistance, strength, and low stretch make it a good option for crank baits. it also sinks so it will help to get them down deeper

Yozuri

Trilene xl

gamma 12 lb (expensive)

Berkely Trilene Big Game/cheaper than most and a lot of people swear by it.

I've heard some say that they will go as light as 10# and others will go up to 15/17#, personally I stick with 12# Yozuri.

I  Don't use braid for treble hook baits, so I can't comment there.

I use 12 lb yozuri hybrid ultra soft...have also spooled up 10 lb too, which seems to cast a tad further.

Depending on the type of cover being fished, PLine CX or CXX 10 lb.

There is a subset of treble hook lures that are topwater. FC line sinks and as a result, it might make FC a line not to choose. Since you mention all treble hook lures, it would include poppers, propeller baits, and walk the dog lures, that might not fare well with fc.

FC might be useful for cranks and jerks and mono for the topwater trebles but mono is practical for all treble hook lures.

Ok, on this rod I will put 12lb fluoro for crankbaits. Now, what line should I put on the same rod and reel for jigs and spinnerbaits? And what line should I put on a 6'6 M baitcast rod for worms and finesse?

I'll be spooling 12lb CXX on a similar set up next time I go out. I would use 10lb, but I still have some 12 that needs to be used. I can also highly recommend Yo Zuri Hybrid as well.

I just saw your last post and I would definately go with either of the above mentioned lines for either setup. If you are set on using flourocarbon, I would use that on your worm rod and go with a mono or hybrid line on your treble setup.

just spooled my curado e7 for spinnerbaits/buzzbaits with yozuri hybrid 12lb and its awesome. Im also spooling another curado e7 for treble hooks with 12lb yozuri.

that's the ticket

I would go with Yo-Zuri Hybrid on all of your setups.  I would probably use 12lbs all the way around.

You can read more on it here:Yo-Zuri Line

You will not be disappointed with this line.

Ok, one last question, I promise, than I'll go away forever. On my 7' MH baitcast setup with 12lb fluoro, what else can I fish this with?

Ok, what I'm trying to figure out is, if I have 4 setups, what type of line would I put on each, and what would I use each one fore?  1: 7' MH baitcast W/ 12lb Fluoro for crankbaits and what else? : 2: 6'6 M baitcast W/ what type of line and used for what?:  3: 7' MH baitcast W/ what type of line and used for what?: 4: 7' MH or 7' H baitcast W/ what type of line and used for what?

Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test)

Baitcasting gear: #12 Ultra Soft or original Hybrid #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb test)

All line will perform better if treated with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner.
