Hey all

Would 10lb be to high for a spinning reel? I've read where some will not use higher then a 8lb test on a spinner reel.

#10 is too big for a 2500 series reel, but fine for 4000 series.

There is no advantage in using #8, Ultra Soft #6 is about 11.9

lb test and the right size for spinning tackle. KVD Line & Lure

Conditioner will improve the performance of the line, too.

10 is definitely too big. And to RW's point, #8 and #6 are only rated .1 lb different in break strength... so unless you need extra diameter for abrasion resistance I'd stick with #6 on regular (2500 size) spinning gear.

10lb Ultra Soft is my line of choice for my Shimano 4000 reels.

Casts great and very abrasion resistant. When you do get a nice one wrapped around a dock post or stump you can get him/her out.

Regular for me is the 4000 size. I drop down when dropshotting or finesse worming but for skipping docks or tossing lighter baits at heavier cover, I like the larger spool and heavier line. To each his own.

I use Ultra Soft in 6lbs on my 2500 series spinning reels along with KVD and have had no problems at all.

Well, looks like I'm the ODD one...lol I do use the 8# on my 2500 Shimano spinnin reel, why..? for a couple of reasons..I fish alot of city park ponds/lakes..all of them have rocks, and or debris that people seem to feel compeled to throw in the water..so, I feel that I need the 8 # for the abrasion factor..

Also, 99% of the lakes I fish have stick ups, rocks, timber..ect.again, I feel better with the 8#...just mho..Oh, and I have never felt the need to spray the yozuri us with kvd line conditioner..

RW is right, I did the same thing getting the 10# and it kept looping off and getting twist in the line on my 20 series reel. I stepped down to the 6# after a RW post and used the KVD and its fine. I saved whats left of the 10# for my B/C. I also fish alot of park ponds/lakes but not as many rocky areas.

I have not used YZ-US in#10 (so I cannot address it specifically).  I have used it in #6 and #12.  I did not care for the #6 on spinning gear due to twist that I did not get with other lines (my experience only )

I took a gamble and put #10 Gamma copoly on my Tierra 2500 this year.  It is now my favorite line.  In my experience, it is more manageable than YZ-US in #6 and is extremely strong.  If I could use only one line for all situations, Gamma #10 would be my choice.

However, it is expensive and tough to find.  I've already saved several baits that would have been lost to other brands, so it has paid for itself.  Do not try to pull snags free with your bare hands

Never heard that before. You're saying Ultra Soft had a greater

tendency to twist than other lines? Makes no sense to me, I just

don't see how that could be. Lines are twisted by retrieve on the

spool. So, line twist is a characteristic associated with particular

reels not line. I would think any line twist you experience to be

common for all line brands other than braid. You got me...I don't

know.

Regarding Gamma, I like that line, too. Sunline Defier is another

to consider if cost is of no concern.

Thanks for the input. I've been relectant on lower lb line for strength reasons, but I think I'll give it a try.
