Saros or Supreme

Recommended Posts

Well I have been looking for a new Spinning reel and these two fit the budget. I have been doing a lot of research both through the search on here and many reviews on Basspro and Cabelas. Only problem with that is they seem pretty even. So I want to see if anyone has used any of these and can point out which ones have felt better to them. I felt the Supreme at gander mountain the other day and it is really light. My dad owns the Shimano Sahara and its very smooth and I am thinking the Saros is just an upgrade from that.

Any input would be great. I wish I could just buy both and call it a day :-) but I need to save for a new carrot stick also lol.

Thanks

-Dylan

Saros hands down, bar none.  The Supreme may be light and somewhat smooth, but it isn't the reel the Saros is.

Choice is not cut & dried.  Supreme $30 less and lighter, but I'm not sure of the durability over time.

I own a supreme 8030 & 8035, both very smooth and drag is more than sufficient. I use the 8030 for bass and I moved the 8035 for saltwater inshore use(just rinse it off and the mag frame is no problem). The 8035 has more line capacity than the saros and it's lighter and I've handled sizeable fish on it, larger than LMB.

I do not own a saros, but I do own a stradic fi4000 which is a very fine reel and a stronger drag.

I don't spend anyone else's money, but if I could not afford a stradic, I's buy the supreme or wait and save up for the stradic.

Since they're even in your eyes, perhaps you can bring it down to which one is going to be easier to service or repair when you run into problems. ;)

Began the season with a new Saros, its a very good reel.Paired it to a Compre 6' 6" rod and felt great.Casts really well with no line slap, same on retrieve.Balance was just a tad in front of drag adjustment.Comes with a 6:01 ratio and picks up line very quickly(quickest I've ever had on a spinning reel)and evenly.Drag adjustment is smooth and finely tuned, took me a few fish to get used to it.Very, very slight wobble to it in hand(from handle)but not noticeable while fishing.Servicing the reel should be no more difficult than the baitcaster you just "mastered",piece of cake? : ).There is one spring in there where you switch the reel from forward/backward to just forward that likes to play hide n seek though.G/L

I don't own any Pfluegers so I won't comment, but as far as the Saros, do not be affraid.  I bought one this last winter for light spinning applications (Saros 1000) and have fished it alot.  The drag is smooth, the anti-reverse is dead on, and the mechanics get a perfect 10.  I have used it so much more than the Stradic that I can't even really compare them two.  If your looking to stay on budget the Saros will not let you down.

In my first season with the Supreme, happy so far but can't give an honest review yet. One thing that may tip the Supreme in your favor is Pflueger still includes an extra spool with their reels (notice I didn't say 'free' spool ;D) I believe Shimano stopped doing this a while back.

If I'm wrong, the posse will be along shortly to help me see the light.

The Saros includes a spare aluminum spool.

It's called supreme for a reason .

What he said. I have 4 of them. Been using them since they first came out and have had no issues with any of them. Drag is buttery smooth and the weight of the reel is a nice change from other spinning reels.
