Hey,

im new here to the board and love to bass fish Im just now investing some money in the hobby as well as saving up for my first bass boat.... Im looking to spend about 175 bucks on a rod and reel... any suggestions on rods or reels that fit within this price range

I totally agree with War Party..better to invest the majority of your $$$ in the rod...those reels will serve you well.

Start with a Shimano Stradic 2500 FI and any 6 1/2' - 7' Medium Power/

Fast Action rod. Reels are what makes fishing fun. On average,

the cost of my rigs are 67- 75% reel/ 1/4 to 1/3 rod.

That's a nice reel. But it doesn't leave him any cash to buy even the cheapest rod at walmart. We're talkin' 175 here.

id get a shimano sahara 2500 and spend the change on a st. croix, falcon or fenwick rod. ive heard good things about powell as well although i have never used one.

edit: check out shimano rods too

We will have to agree to disagree..i'd rather have a nice reel, but a better rod..weather it's right or wrong is any ones guess..imho

or

And still have money left over and a fine combo to fish with
