BPS and Prices

I always print out what's on sale from the website and take it with me.

Worst that can happen is they say no. Usually the checker will call the manager over and to avoid a fuss, they'll honor it.

Mooks out east might be different.

Muddy, I have been waiting to use the word MOOK and finally got my chance! ;)

Witness number one since he spoke up. I was trying to buy an extreme reel that day and it was on sale on the net site for 20 dollars less than the store price. Speedbead, Basser 89 and Sharkbite were with me and neiter the salesman or manager would meet the Internet BPS price, AT HARRISBURG

The other instance was for them to match a price on a BPS site sale for a Fritts Cranking reel, Ron was with me that day SAME DEAL!!!!!!!!!! No Going So now MUDDY IS GONE :;)

Which is not gonna break them by a mile

Maybe they just recognize a MOOK when they see one!

Twice in one day. I've started calling people at work MOOKs and they give me funny looks.

I had that happen to me at the BPS in Rossford. The worst part is it is 1 1/2 hour drive. I like Cabelas better, but that is even farther. Gander Mtn. is pretty close, but not tailored to much bass fishing.

Tackle Warehouse seems to be the best place to buy online as of right now. The free shipping for orders over 50 clams rocks, and have used them a few times with no problems.

I need to be fair here. The BPS in Memphis, was the exact opposite experience, as far as customer service.

I went there with Road Warrior and Risk Kid, I believe on the way back from fishing at the Fork in Texas. I had broken the tip off an Extreme, as Glenn was showing me an "easy way" to pull a spinner bait off a stump!

It was my fault totally, I went into the Memphis , told them what I had done , he took the rod, and gave me a replacement free of charge, on a break that was totally my fault

Seems like the simple solution would have been to order online...

Only if you want to pay shipping on top of tax.

Every single time I have ordered online from BPS I have Googled "Bass Pro Shops Promo Codes" and have found free shipping codes.

Even if there isn't one available, according to Muddy, he still would have gotten the reel at least $10 off from ordering online.

I just did the math. I bought a pretend BPS Extreme reel from BPS. Shipping ended up being $7.95. That's a savings of $12.05 assuming the reel is $20 off online.

In my case, the closest BPS is 2 hours away. Paying the extra $7.95 is well worth the 2 hours of my time and the half tank of gas it gets there. I have no idea how close y'all live to the Harrisburg, but an extra $8 is not a big deal to me considering the convenience.

To each his own.

Wow. It appears that a lot of people don't like BPS.

All I can atest to are my dealings with them and over the last several years I have not had any problems. I remember ordering a round baitcast reel online and getting the price listed even thought it was an obvious mistake. Saved a bunch on that reel. I've always gotten everything I ordered and all charges were as they were stated when I placed the orders. now, I got my new reel at an additional $20 off the store's sale price and saved $50. It is now the regular price and the sale ended Sunday.

I will admit that Cabela's has a much better rod and reel selection to choose from. Also, the Bargin Cave is pretty much anything but a bargin.

Bottom line. I suppose each has it's ups and downs.

Why when you can place most of the same order from Tackle Warehouse and get free shipping for orders over 50 bucks, Burley turned me on to that one. Fishing so close to Cabelas , offers me the benifit of store delivery, Does BPS offer this also?

BPS is 58 miles each way, I fish less than 15 miles from Cabelas and live about 30 miles away

It sounds like you're set then. I agree TW is superior to most fishing stores. I don't live near either one so delivery is the only way to go with me. I've ordered from BPS, Cabela's, and TW. BPS is usually higher in price, and Cabela's has screwed up several of my orders. TW is the way to go. I'm happy with all three. I just believe they all have their advantages.

Out of curiosity, do they have somewhere in writing that they honor online prices? Have you sent mail to corporate?

This reminds me of my dealings with Verizon. There are thousands of Verizon "stores", but the only stores where you can actually get anything done are the "direct stores" which look exactly the same. They wear the same clothes, logos, and sell the same phones, but they don't offer the same services.

I understand your frustration.

Their policy, and I have never read it, so there is a strong possibility I have it wrong; if you bring a competitors ,current flier or sale ad in they will match it.

Here you go. According to the website the rules regarding price matching of online items varies store to store. So there is no answer in your case, but it shows requirements for matching prices the other way around. (Store to online, instead of online to store.)

The above policies apply to catalog/online orders only. Please contact your local Bass Pro Shops Retail store location for information on their price matching policy.

**EDIT

Well the link doesn't work, but if you go to BPS.com and scroll down to the lower left click on FAQ's, and then #12 Price Matching.

Thanks for your effort. We all have our favorites , mine is Cabelas, for many reasons of convenience.

BigTom and I had the problem with price matching at bps. The Crankin Stick were onsale online, went and got one and the girl behind the counter said she couldn't obtain a price from the online site, spent a good 15-20 min trying to get the correct price, managers were called and eventually got a print out of the site price, from the same computer she said she was unable to look up the price. Thought we got it fixed, go to checkout and while the ***** at the check out talked to us about the sale, he rang us up for the whole price. Good thing I thought to look over the reciept.

Even if there isn't one available, according to Muddy, he still would have gotten the reel at least $10 off from ordering online.

That's true, but it's still not as much off as he feels (and I agree) he should have gotten.  Settling never leaves one with a good taste in their mouth.

Never a problem with BPS on any issue.  The fishing dept manager in Dania Florida knows how to interact with customers and is knowledgeable regarding the products in his department.  Much of it has to do with how you approach the situation and how well you can communicate.

  • Super User

Yea it had to be my fault because I am a poor communicator!

I guess I only approach things right at Cabelas and short circut in BPS.
