Plano 777

i guess this is the right spot to put this post...if not then i guess it willl be moved.

ive been looking at the Plano 777 tackle system lately and that thing seems to have it all....its got a large tray on the top w/ many compartments, then the top lifts up and there is deep storage for line or a few bags of soft pplastics, and there is a spot to hang spinner and buzz baits, and then on the front there is a little door that opens down and two big clear boxes slide out w/ lots of compartments and two levels in each. then on the side there is another door that stores two smaller boxes.  THATS ALOT OF STORAGE!!!! but the thing weighs probably 10lbs empty, so it willl be very heavy and bulky when its full of stuff.

so i found myself in a delema. should i just buy the 777 and have alll my tackle in one box and deal with the size/weight, or should i buy several of those one-level clear boxes and get one for each type of lure and carry a sepearate bag for soft plastics?

i like the fact that everything is in one place the problem is if something happpens to that everything is gone.

oh thats true....i never thought about that. i was reading reviews on bass pro and someone said that they dropped it in the ocean and it floated with all their gear inside. i hope that is true.  :-/

Dave,

I had an older version of that system when I was fishing tourneys as a none boater back in the early 90's. It gets real heavy if you load it up.

So to get around having to lug all that weight and bulk, I started making up smaller systems geared to each lake I was fishing. You have been angling long enough to have a few bodies of water that you know well enough, to only have to carry a few lures and have a productive day. I would make smaller more efficient systems for each body of water.

Just an idea....

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

I really like the tackle bags with the 3700's in them. I like the Cabelas 3700 Pro Guide Tackle Bag w/Boxes. This is the kind of bag you would need as a coangler. I can hold a ton of harbaits/jigs/terminal. One problem is lack of space with plastics but I only carry a specific selection of plastics. I suggest going with a tackel bag.

Dave, I have a new 777 that I bought last spring. I used it for a while but it was too big for my boat. I kept tripping over it. PM me if you're interested. It's just taking up space in the garage!

I have a 777 and it is very heavy when fully loaded.  I found it to be to much to lug around when I was pond hopping so I started using a Jansport 2 Day Hiker backpack.  I can load tons of stuff in it including lunch and few drinks. One great thing is that I can take out what I don't want to take so I can decrease the weight much easier than I can with the 777.

If I am going out on a boat the 777 is the ticket.  It organizes everything but I tend to forget to put the top down hard enough and end up dumping it sometimes.

I got one as well and with it fully loaded I had to put it on the side opposite of the battery on my little boat. Today I used the 4600 trays and some other boxes and 3 small gaer bags and it worked great. If I had a larger boat it would be good but right now its way too bulky. BTW Ive also dumped the top part out  ;D

I took forever trying to figure out the best way to store tackle. I had 3 small hard sided boxes one for crappie, one for bass on one for cat but didn't like it. Once I switched to soft bags it was a no brainer. In my case I fish a lot from the bank so I have a small one that has a small selection of what the big one does. I just re-stock as needed. To me the plasic organizers make organizing much easier. One for cranks, one for plasics, one for crappie etc.

Tha bag systems with the shoulder straps allow your hands to be free and thus easier to carry everything you need in one or less # of trips.

My vote is for a bag that holds the 3700 or 3701.

I used a similar box, the Plano 4741, and like others found the fully loaded weight to be too much. Fishing from the bank, I now use it as a base station in my trunk, and pack smaller units for a multi-pocketed waist pack.

One issue I had was the molded door latch. In extreme cold the plastic becomes very brittle and doesn't flex. On several occassions the latch snapped, and being a flex point can't be glued. On my last go-round Plano customer service did supply me in advance with with six replacement doors.
