Shimano Sahara and BPS XPS extreme combo

Featured Replies

Ok I am new here and I was just walking around BPS today and on a whim purchased a Shimano Sahara 2500 FD and BPS XPS Extreme 6.6 MH Combo for 149.00 and now I have a little buyers remorse.

I am just getting back to fishing after taking about 12 years off and most of my old stuff baitcasters and spinning reels have been either damaged or lost or borrowed over the years.

So I was just looking at picking up an all around spinning reel combo that was somewhat decent.

Now I should have asked if this setup is ok before I purchased it but I can still return it if need be.

I am searching on here right now and I see the Phuluger president would have been as little less expensive and that was the direction the salesman wash pushing me to (said it had more bearings) but I didnt know to much about that brand.

Thanks in advance!

I have never used a Sahara, almost bought one but I got the President combo instead.  I'm sure the Sahara is a fine reel, I would have suggested the President, it is one of the, if not the best spinning reel in it's price range.  It's a tad heavy but it's solid and smooth.

Thanks for the reply.  The president did feel nice! I just was not sure about the brand so I went with the Shimano wich was only 20 more the combo.  Maybe I should take it back for the president combo and save the 20.00 ?

I have the Shara, and really like it...it's pretty dang smooth for a 80.00 reel. I also had a bps extrem finesse rod, only it was a baitcaster..I liked it, cept I broke the tip off..went to get another, but they were all out, so I snaged the Rick Clunn rod.

I'd say the combo you have is decent, sure you could get a better one at a cost..

And that's exactly what you got.  I fish with two different extreme spinning rods and one extreme casting rod.  As long as you buy them on a good sale they are a good deal.  I haven't fished the sahara, but I have the symetre and I like it better than the plfueger I have.  The pflueger (am I spelling that right?) is a weighty reel.

I have a Sahara 1000 and it's a pretty good reel. It's very smooth and of course very light being the 1000 size but it is also graphite which I have heard others say isn't good but I haven't had any problems with flex since the fish I have caught with it haven't been big enough to cause a problem. It's a great all around reel and very solid for the $80 price point. I have mine paired with a 7ft Cabelas XML ML.

Sure RW will chime in but the 8lb will probably have lots of unwanted memory but try the KVD line and lure conditioner on it to cut down on the memory.

Will do I will go pick up some.   I wanted to get 6# but they were out.

Thanks!

Dan

I haven't used the Sahara but I have several of the lesser priced Sedona's and absolutely love that reel.  Incredibly smooth and a true workhorse.   Not sure how much better the Sahara is but you sure didn't get a lemon.

I own 2 Saharas and love them. You have the latest model which is even better. You have a great combo - only the fish are gonna complain!

I'm sorry, but the 8 lb Dosen't have a lot of memory, heck I don't even use KDV Line cond. on my baitcasters, much less my 6 & 8lb test.  Really no need for it imho.

Why..? when the ultrasoft has much less memory.. ;)

yeah the one I got was just the regular Hybrid they did not have the ultra soft there.  Is there a big difference??

If you haven't used the Yo Zuri Hybrid, then why are you telling the OP that there is no need for a line conditioner on Yo Zuri Hybrid?
