I just went out and fished for the first time since I changed spools on my president, I cannot increase the drag to my liking. Even when it's all the way tight I can still pull line out fairly easy.

I'm assuming you are refering to a spinning reel?  Were you able to adjust it to your liking with your previous spool?

Maybe there is oil or grease on your drag disks.  You can take the disks out and clean any oil or grease off and reassemble.   Use your exploded diagram that came with the reel.

Yes it's a spinning reel. I didn't have any problems with my original spool, should I try and put my old spool back on and see if it still has problems just to be sure?

I would say that make sure the drag knob isn't cross threaded.
