I scored one on Ebay last night for $76.65.  I didn't necessarily need it, but couldn't let it go for over half off.

I plan on teaming this rod up with a moderatly priced reel, perhaps a Citica.

This will be an all-around rod, everything from wacky Senkos, spinnerbaits, topwater prop baits, and  Pointer 100DD's.

Was wondering if anyone has this rod?  What do you think of it/use it for?  How is the tip, soft/more stiff?

you will REALLY like the Techna AV series.

I would compare them favorably to St. Croix Avids.

I have both Techna AV's and St Croix rods and agree with RW. The rods are comparable and you will enjoy your AV. Use a quality reel and start fishing.

I've seen guys with full size muskie/pike rods soaking suckers through the ice.  Watching the hookset is really neat.

I have this rod and I also have several Avid's ..while I like my Avid's the Techna AV is more sensitive and lighter IMO. The Avid and Techna are almost identical as far as the tip action .. I use mine for TR worm fishing with 1/4 oz weight.It should do fine with everything you're going to throw.

I haven't used any of the newer ones but I have one that is about eight years old that I like more than my GLX.  It isn't as stiff but it is just as light in the hand and almost as sensitive.  Just because you didn't pay much for it doesn't mean you need to sell it short by putting a mid grade reel on it.  That rod will compliment the best reel any of the manufactures have to offer.

That's encouraging news to hear.  Unfortunately I simply cannot afford much in the reel dept for this stick.  This was definitely an unplanned purchase; I just couldn't let it go at that price.

I still have my original off season list of holes to fill, and it is going to be a bit pricey.  I still need to pick up a Fuego rod, a Zillion rod, and a Cumara, a 7' crankin' stick, and at least one more new bc reel.  It just doesn't stop. ;D

I have a 7' M power, fast action Techna AV spinning rod, as well as a St Croix Avid in the same length/power/action. The Avid is a touch heavier, and fishes a bit more "powerfull" than the Techna. I can honestly not give the nod to one over the other in sensitivity. And...... this is just me...........I like the Avid better.

I fully understand that.  I just love that rod and would own more but when I was upgrading my arsenal to what it is today, Fenwick was putting those stainless guides on the Technas which I didn't care for.

I have the same rod.  It is about 4.2 oz.  and very sensitive.  Although it feels good with a Chronarch MG, I prefer it with my heavier Quantum TE 1171.  I think it is very versatile and it is probably my most frequently used casting rod.  You will enjoy it

Rod came this week, and I'm very happy; it's just what it I hoped it would be.  I love medium-powered casting rods, and it getting tougher to find one that's not mod, mod-fast, or x-fast.  A true fast blank seems to be out of fashion, not unlike reels that are not classified as a burner.

I have my eyes set on the 7' M, Zillion rod, and the Fenwick will compliment it nicely: it is a bit slower and will fill in for the duties the faster Zillion will not be best suited for.
