I'm bout to get a crappie setup, which is a 6' ML Lightning Rod, a 1000 size spinning reel and 4 lb line.

The problem is I don't know what kind of line to get.

What do you guys use?

I use 4lb mono.

You can't go wrong with 4 lb Trilene XL. Cheap and easy to get.  Keep it fresh and you'll be happy.  Let it get old/nicked/worn and you will be sad.  I hear some people on here like them some sort of "hybrid" or another. 

I was into crappie fishing (well I still am)but got into bass fishing more heavily but I always used either or 4# or 6#.The water where I fish is usually stained(so if that matters) I use the flourescent blue color because it's easier to see the "thump"of a crappie bite.Be careful when bringing them in as their mouths are very thin at the sides.

i use 5 lb. maxima Ultra Green , a pretty strong , light line . i have never had a crappie break me off , i fish for them alot ..........

Another Maxima vote. I like 6# Chameleon in the clear water I fish. A lot will depend on how you're fishing for them. 75% of the time I use minnows 12" off of a split shot. Seldom do I watch the line. I just keep the rod balanced on two fingers just ahead of the reel and can feel every little hit.

I've (accidentally) pulled up 20 pounds of a brushpile on 6# Maxima. It's great line!

Yo Zuri Ultra Soft in either 4# or 6# Mist Green. Tough light diameter line! I fish 1/32 to 1/8 oz. jigs with no problems. Landed this fish while crappie fishing with it last April.

Another vote for Trilene XL. I prefer the green color. I use 4# most of the time. I think you get better lure action with the lighter line. When fishing in heavy brush or trees I will go to 6 or 8# if necessary. Volfan is right about taking care of your line, especially light line. You have to be careful and check it regularly. Good luck. Ain't much better than a plate of fried crappie fillets.

I think that is what is refered to as an 'understatement'.

I really like Stren Magnathin. You can bump-up a size or two, and not sacrifice line diameter. Though, I would not recommend this line if you plan on fishing heavy cover.

My walleye slip-bobber rigs are all spooled with 8lb. Magnathin, and they work great for slabs. It's nice to be able to cover two species with the same setups.

Cause that is without a doubt the most crapy line I have ever used!!!!  ;D

i was thinking about gettin viscious flouro carbon for crappie fishing because of the sensitivity of the flurocarbon for jigging does anyone have an idea i use right now 4lb mom triliene hi viz flouresent

I think in the last 30 yrs. I've caught crappie on just about every kinda line, cept braid and such..also ever brand...mono worked fine for all those yrs..no fancy line needed...pick your brand and go get em..
