Help please/keep or exchange it.

I recieved for xmas my first baitcasting setup/combo

Pflueger Echelon on a allstar instinct rod 6'6" m fast. cant use it till spring so it will be hard to figure out if this combo is good for learning to baitcast with. is there anything that is easy for first timers to learn with?

I can take it back if needed, just need to know if this worth keeping or exchanging it and adding some cash to get something like a shimano citica and get a rod later? any advice would be great.

thanks

If you're a beginner bait caster, then I'd say go for the Citica. Your backlash (and frustration) factor will be way down vs. the Pflueger.

yeah you can't beat the price TW has on the fuegos..  that'll give you a lot less stress than would a pflueger..

my first baitcasting setup was a Revo STX and it gave me a lot more confidence than if i would've been using a cheaper reel...

for example:  2 of my buddies bought cheap quantums because dicks was having a sale on them... it was their first baitcasters and to this day all they use is spinning because they got so frustrated trying to learn on a cheaper reel..

let us know what rod you pick for sure... take it out once you get it and practice casting into a hat.. overhand, sidearm, pitchin flippin,   by the time spring comes you will be good to go

I bought one of TW's $132 Fuego's a couple weeks back...today I ordered another! It's a fine reel. I also have a new Curado E7. In my uneducated opinion I prefer the Fuego. I'll let you know how it all works out at the end of the 2010 season   ;)

One's on a Quantum Superlite 7' M/MF rod (another killer deal @ $100). The next one will go on a St Croix Premier 6'6" MH/F

I would return it and get something better. Your thought process with the mojo rod is right on, I have 5 of them.

Red and Purple?  :) Come on, there are plenty of rods with red in them in that price range.  ;)

Seriously though, the Fuego is a great reel and tough to beat at $132
