Best non-exspenisive baitcast

Featured Replies

I am new to baitcast reels and would like to buy one and try. Now, i am not looking to buy a real cheap piece of junk that will have to be replaced. Trust me, i am determined to get a nice reel for around 50 bucks and i will keep with and practice. Anybody have any experiecce with a nice durable reel that would break my pocket? Thanks in advance.

Daiwa Procaster 6+1 ( PR100/101 H ), for 70 bucks you get a very nice reel.

$50 is a tough price-point to get a good, long-lasting reel. Some folks will come along soon and recommend getting a Garcia Ambassadeur round-reel on eBay. For a new reel, to go over your budget a bit, BPS has the Rick Clunn reel on clearance right now for $71.82 - this reel has dual-braking, making learning to use a baitcaster quite a bit easier.

Go to ebay, look for an orange Daiwa Capricorn XTC, it is an all metal reel you can buy for around $50-it is basically the best of the old Daiwa Procaster series.

Abu Garcia Silver Max

look in the flea market... some BPS extreme reels usually pop up used for around 40 bucks are so... they are nice reels for the money

go to the spring fishing sale at bass pro and get a bass pro tournament series reel. i was really scared about getting one for 40 dollars but wow best buy for 40 bucks by far.. its got 10 bearings so its super smooth.

Im surprise nobody suggested the 4600C3 Abu.   A basic, workhorse reel that will last forever.

See post number 4 - I was expecting you !

Without a doubt, your best bet is to buy used.

If you do buy new, your going to be looking for a BPS reel, that is on clearance. I wouldn't go lower than there Extreme. But they can go on sale cheap when a new model comes out (no new models this year)

Or buy a used 4600 c3 or c4, used Revo S, used BPS reel, or used Daiwa.

I know a few folks who have used the Daiwa Megaforce or whatever it's called for a few years now with no problems.

BPS Pro qualifer, I'll sell you one for $45 shipped to your door.

That is a fantastic deal. The PQ is great reel in my opinion. It has a dual brake control, and is a very smooth reel. I have two, and use them all the time.

There are many good tips on here. But I would say a daiwa Megaforce for about $ 69.00, I bought one and it was very easy to use, nice and smooth reel.Or the Pflueger Echelon or the Cetina. These would be my picks. And you may find them cheaper if you do your home work.

Yep - great deal and I bet that Steezy takes great care of his equipment so you will be getting a good reel.

you should jump all over that!  ;)

I agree with nova77x, the Daiwa Capricorn XTC reels are an amazing deal. They are often forgot about, but I've had one of these reels for a long time and never had a single problem with it. They are not the lightest reel around, but for the price they are great. Lube and grease a couple times a year and they will last forever.

If you meant me ... I normally would but I thought I would give the OP a chance at it ! Plus, I'm waiting to get one of the new 5.2:1 ratio PQs on sale... ::o

Do you want a left or right-handed reel?  I only ask as that may impact your buy-used options.  However, buying used is the way to go and if Steezy's reel is the hand you want, you need to jump on it.
