Quantum hot sauce and cold weather

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else notice that the hot sauce seems to get gummy in cold weather?  Seems like I notice some difference in the reel when the weather gets cold.

I'm positive they're talking about grease, not oil.  Shimano Permalub, cut with a few drops of Bantam Oil is great for sub freezing grease on gears, and crank/handle/pinion support bearings.  Any light reel oil like Bantam, Reel Mech., Daiwa, etc. works fine for spool bearings.

do you have a "go-to" all around oil?

Not too thin, not too thick.....?

My point is they all do, hot sauce is a good lube, never had a problem.  I use reel butter now and like it but that's cause that's what was available when I needed it.

Big Quantum fan here but I can't stand the hot sauce. I used to use it when it first came out but once winter came, I found it gummed up real bad for me (even after a fresh cleaning and re-lube. I've switched over to Reel Butter too and have not had any where near the issues in cold water as I did the hot sauce.
