Line Color

Recommended Posts

Does it make a difference? I think I'm going to order to P-Line CX soon and don't know which color to get. I always used clear for my Trilene XL when I used it and Moss Green for Sufix Siege, but those colors were just what was available locally.

The line color debate comes up often and there are honest opinions on both sides. Personally, I don't pay much attention to line color except in super clear water situations and then I'll add a fluoro leader. If a certain color gives you confidence in your setup, use that.

color depends on the situation.

for clear waters, go with the clear fluorescent

for muddy waters the fluorescent green

for heavy vegetation areas the mossy green

Since I fish a combination of areas and usually do not have multiple rods/reels for different locations, I tend to just stick with the clear and change the bait itself for the situation.

When I do have the 2 rods (and soon a 3rd), I have Power Pro green on one for vegetation, 14lb mono for top/shallow lures and soon my 3rd (when the order comes in) will run 15lb clear fluorescent Pline CX.

I have resorted to using a flouro leader on everything, whether the line is mono or braid. Even on the Neon Tangerine thats on my Pitchin rod!

I don't think it matters, but for a better match:

Clear water = green

Stained water = purple smoke

8-)

Green for everything.

The only true reason why I use different color lines is to distinguish which lb test the line is, since I have several reels I don 't always remember what 's inside them, since I don 't like sticking anything to my reels line color is my way of coding the line, if it 's clear then it 's 8 lb test, if it 's blue fluorescent then it is 10 lbs, if it 's moss green then it 's 12 lbs, if it is clear but looks like a rope then it 's 15 lbs.

I think most of the times it makes no difference and if I think it 's going to impact on the bite then I tie a clear leader.

I was fishing in water this weekend that had five to six feet visibility & a friend was catching bass with red line.  I was very suprised that the red line worked in water that clear.  He was also throwing a bright yellow spinnerbait & catching fish also.  Sometimes we out think ourselves.
