Joining braid to mono leader?

Featured Replies

Recently bought some braided lines to try out this coming season.

What's the best knot/method to join 30 lb braid to a piece of mono or flourocarbon leader? How long can the leader be? Is there a method that will enable the joint to pass easily through the tip ring for casting?

Any advice welcome. . .

Double uni knot.  I have been using this for almost a year now and it is very good and easily slides through the guides without loss of casting distance.

I personally use a 2 or 3 foot leader.

Double uni. The leader length in my opinion depends on the water clarity and the lure your using. You could use no leader or a few feet.

Like topwater, I use a uni to uni knot, 6 twist's on the mono/fluro, and 8 twists on the braid. No casting problems. I have used up to a 5' leader, and that was on my swimbait rig..Never had a knot fail.

with 30lb, I'm guessing your gonna be worming ect..? I'd use a 3-4' leader.

This knot works best for my clumsy fingers.  How much leader?  As much as you can comfortably cast with.

I make mine as long as possible.  It allows you to change baits more times, or to trim away damaged sections before needing to replace the leader.
