Is fast/mh what most "spinnerbait rods are?  Looking through BPS catalog, thats what alot of the specific technique rods are, as best I can tell.  Is that a good choice for a dedicated spinnerbait rod?

Probably, unless you throw light lures.

Medium Power.

generally, a 7'0" Med. Heavy, Fast Action rod is good. But it all depends on your preference. I got a 6'6" med. Heavy, Fast Action... works out great, especially for underhanded, short-range casting, which I usually do when fishing the blades. hope this helps.

I asked this same question a couple years ago when I was looking for a new spinnerbait rod. Loomis list all of their Spinnerbait specific rods with Extra-Fast tips and yet several other manufactures make theirs on the complete other end of the spectrum with Moderate or Mod-Fast tips.

I use Kistler rods so I bought their Spinnerbait Argon rod which was a 6'9" MH/Mod. It was a much too soft tip for me and I sold the rod. I ended up just splitting the difference and bought a 6'6' MH/Fast rod and have been happy with it's performance. If it's one of those days that I'm throwing Spinnerbaits as my primary bait for that day and I want 2 or 3 Spinnerbaits tied on and laying out on my boat deck I will just use a couple 7ft MH/F rods of which I have several.

I like a 7' MHF for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, 3/8 oz and up.

Casting 1/4 oz spinnerbaits and buzzbaits is easier and more accurate with a 6' 10" MHXF, but it doesn't handle the 1/2, 3/4, and 1 oz spinnerbaits as well as the 7' MHF because the XF tip is a little too soft for those big spinners.

My recommendation would be the St. Croix Avid AVC70MHF. Thats what I use for 90% of my spinnerbait fishing.

I use my crankbait rod for spinnerbaits too.  It is a BPS Crankin Stick, Medium action...is this okay?  I was thinking about buying a 7' medium ugly stick lite for spinnerbaits, but didn't know how that would work out...

This is a question that really depends on what size spinnerbait you're gonna throw, and what kind of line you're gonna use to do it - a lot like the "which combo for crankbaits?" question. It depends.

For compact spinnerbaits up to about 1/2 ounce (which is what I use most of the time) I like a 7' Med/Fast to Fast action, Medium Power casting rod. Seems a little soft at first, but that's O.K. because I use braid on this set-up, so I need a little "give" somewhere in there.

For bigger lures like the 3/4 ounce compact "burners" or big full 1-ounce slow rollers I like a Medium Heavy power, again with braid.

For tiny buzzers and spinnerbaits (like the "Pond Magic" ones) I like the same spinning combo I use for inline (Mepps style) spinners.

No one rod will work very well for all these different lures.

Ok, I am going to get another rod then, that settles it...I'm telling my wife it is your fault!

I use a 6'10" MH/MF rod for 3/8 to 1/2 oz spinnerbaits. I use the same rod for my lipless cranks, so the mod-fast action works well for me.

7' MH/F graphite is perfect for all my spinnerbaits
