  1. Has anyone won yet? I thought they were drawing the first winner today? Who is the lucky fisherman?
  2. I love the Luck-E-Strike hollow belly...And the Lake Fork Magic Shad. I rarely use anything less than a 5inch and catch small and large fish.
  3. I thought one of the advantages of fluoro line was the fact that it had much less stretch than the same diameter mono line? I thought that and the fact that it is so sensitive is why people use it.
  4. I use mono...but I use mono for everything because I have a problem with casting fluorocarbon. If I could use fluorocarbon, I would not because of sensitivity, but because of the fact that there is less stretch with fluorocarbon. That way I would be able to drive the hook a bit deeper in the fishes mouth.
  5. The stripers I have caught were all caught on 1/2 ounce jig heads and a white grub or a hollow bodied swimbait, not a 3 ounce hard bodied swimbait. I need something that will hold up to me throwing a big heavy bait.
  6. I have caught more stripers over 15#s with 12 pound mono and a small baitcasting reel than I could count. I have lost a few of the bigger fish, but have caught the majority of the fish that I hook.
  7. What about a reel? I was thinking about just using one of my Extremes, but should I buy something that is a little tougher? I don't want to tear up my Extremes, I love them. I was thinking about a Ambassador. Maybe buying a cheaper end Shimano off the flea market on here. What would you guys recommend as far as reels?
  8. Ok...I always thought that rods worked better at or close to their max. Kind of like bows...they are at their peak performance at their max draw weight...
  9. I had posted a question about a big swimbait rod a few days ago and got some great advice. However, the swimbaits have been made and they are significantly lighter than the builder had anticipated. They are only 2.8 and 2.9 ounces. I am sure that this changes things with the rod and I am sure that the rod will be cheaper since I can get something that is rated for a 3 ounce lure instead of 4 ounces. What can you all reccomend for me with the new found weight of the lures? I am looking for something as cheap as possible. I was thinking about a Ugly Stick that was made for the bigger fish like the Steel Head rod they build. Would that work if I could find one that is rated for that weight?
  10. Ok...for me, could you please tell me what type of action those rods have. I have no clue what those rods are that you mentioned...sorry for the hassle
  11. I have he 7' medium. I have fished with cranks going to 12 feet and the rod has worked very well. I don't think that I would want a crank running any deeper than 12 feet with the medium though.
  12. The BPS Crankin' Stick is a great rod for a great value. I have also had really good luck with the Berkley Amp rod in 6'6 medium action. If I were going to buy a dedicated crankbait rod, I would get the BPS Crankin stick though. I think it is only $70! You could probably catch it on sale if you look though.
  13. Can someone give me some insight into what a good swimbait rod is? I am having some made for me for striper fishing that are going to weigh a lot...like close to 4 ounces! I do not know what I would need for something that large. Would a garden variety Heavy action 7-7.5' rod do the trick or should I use something that is going to have a really fast tip on it? I know this has been covered a lot on here, but I thought that since these baits are going to be som heavy, I should ask just to be sure. Oh, and they are not going to be trolled, this is for casting from the bank if that makes a difference.
  14. I was a little worried about the reel seat when I first got them, but after catching a bunch of fish on them, I am not worried anymore. One thing I did do was to not tighten the reel down as tight as I do on some other rods. They do look a little flimsy, but I have had no problems.
  15. I fished a tournament at Kentucky Lake this past weekend and wanted to fill everybody in on some of the equipment that I was using. I recently bought a BPS Crankin Stick and wanted something ato use as a backup in case something happened to my Crankin' Stick. I was running low on money and decided to pick up another Berkley Amp rod. I already had one that is a 7' medium action that I use for a worm rod. I decided to get another in a 6'6" version with the same action for a backup crankbait rod. I was had one tied on and decided to throw that color. I was more than suprised at the outcome. I never missed a fish with the Amp. It was excellent! For $30 it would be hard to beat that rod for a backup crankbait rod (in my opinion). Just thought that I would let everyone know that the Amp is a much better rod than what I had thought that it would be.
  16. I am interested in painting my own crankbaits. I always had a knack for painting in school, so I figured I would give it a try. Can someone point me in a good direction to get started buying some equipment? I am looking for crankbaits of all sizes with a bill and that is it, unpainted. I want to put my own hooks on and paint them myself. I need to get pointed in a direction to buy the paint to.
  17. It depends on what kind of fishing you are going to do. If it is going to be used as a jig or other type of finesse reel, I would go with the Slyder. If it is going to be used as a everything reel, I would get the Inertia. The Inertia would be good for spinnerbaits, crankbaits, worm fishing, and finesse. While the Slyder will only be good for finesse fishing or burning baits. This is just my opinion though...I have the Slyder and it is a good reel. I had some issues with it when I first got it, but when I broke it in, all the issues left. My next reel is most likely going to be the Inertia or the Vision. I haven't made my mind up yet. I may just save my money and buy a couple of the new reels next year!
  18. Any of the above line types will work. I used braid on mine, and got tired if it waving around in the wind, so I switched to 14lbs Stren Original. When I first got the reel, I had it filled with 20 something pound Berkley Big Game and it worked without a hickup. Use whatever you are comfortable with and you will be happy.
  19. It won't cause more backlashes...you will cause the backlashes if you don't know what you're doing That's why I use very little braid.
  20. My uncle got me fishing the Cotton Cordell Super Spots this year, they are really nice. I bought a couple of the S.K. Red Eye Shads too and like them...the Rat-L-Trap is a great bait too. I also use the cheap ones from Bass Pro, the ones that are in the big bin that are only $1.99. I buy the white and color them myself. They don't have the action that a lot of the others have, but they are good all the same.
  21. How much do those run? Looking to get a couple for Kentucky Lake this year...
  22. I have several questions...hope nobody cares that I am hijacking another thread... My biggest problems are which crankbaits to throw in different situations. I never know what to throw in a given area during a certain time of year. My other problem is I do not know what crankbaits to buy. I am going to Kentucky Lake in less than 2 weeks and I have not got a good selection of crankbaits and am planning on going to BPS this week and spend $100 on crankbaits. Are than any tips that anyone can give me on what cranks to buy. I would like the most detailed answer as possible, like brand, model, and color. Thanks for any help you can give, and sorry for hijacking the thread.
  23. Here lately it has been everything in my tackle boxes...I can't get them to hit anything. Mainly the lipless crankbait...I had two good hits on it htis weekend, and I fished it for about 6 hours in total, never had one take the bait though... :'(
  24. I have said it before, I absolutely love the BPS Crankin Stick. It is only $69.99 and is a great rod. You should pick one up before you go buying other rods, I think you will be very surprised.
