Can someone give me some insight into what a good swimbait rod is?  I am having some made for me for striper fishing that are going to weigh a lot...like close to 4 ounces!  I do not know what I would need for something that large.  Would a garden variety Heavy action 7-7.5' rod do the trick or should I use something that is going to have a really fast tip on it? 

I know this has been covered a lot on here, but I thought that since these baits are going to be som heavy, I should ask just to be sure. 

Oh, and they are not going to be trolled, this is for casting from the bank if that makes a difference.

Nope, a heavy flippin stick will handle "lighter" baits, usually nothing over 2 ozs or so.

St Croix's muskie rods are worth a look.  Their MH ski sticks would fit the bill.  They have nice long handles, heavy duty components, etc.

I think 4oz is pushing the limit for a White Python personally. ;D

I'd also look at the Loomis SWBR 956.  It's a fine rod that handles 4 oz baits very well.

LOL, I'm sure he has one of those dang slant bridges that will handle 4+.

BTW Bronze, congrats on the other "mod job."

White Python is a great rod up to about 2 oz.  If you're looking for a stick that can handle baits up to 4 oz, the Megabass Orochi F8-78DG Super Destruction is your stick.

Unfortunately, they aren't produced anymore.
