Found something this morning while fishing

Featured Replies

I was fishing and found an Abu Garcia Ambassadaur Bait Casting reel.  It is awfully big...I was just wondering if it would be suitable for bass fishing, and if it is, what kind of rod do I need to attach it to?

I'm pretty pumped to have found it.  I know they're kind of pricey (for me anyway), and it seems to be in good shape.  Oddly enough, there was no rod to be found.

What model number?

Great find! I still have 4 Ambassedeur reels that I use for different types of fishing. They last forever! 8-)

I was fishing a really steep bank, so I was about 20 feet from the shore line.  I have a bad leg, so I have to sit quite often.  I sat down on a fallen tree, and noticed a little 3'' grub bait.  Next to it was a plastic bag.  I looked in the bag, and saw the reel, two Rapala's, a bunch of jig heads, and some sinkers!!  What a morning!

Great reel you've found there! I've had Ambassadeurs since the '70's. I have 5 now, including the first one I bought. They all still function perfectly and make great bass fishing reels. Best part is, you know up front that you'll be able to pass it down your grand kids someday! They're that tough.  :)

From the early 70's, I have fished with Ambassadeurs.  My oldest son has my 5000D  from 1972, it still cast great.  I have 3 5500C3 (now retired, weight), and 4 4600 C3's and 3 REVO SX's.  The 4600 and SX are very active.   The C3 require only a little attention.

Great find.

Did you look to see if anyone was around anywhere nearby that might come looking for that??  If I found that I would definitely make an attempt to return it to its original owner, using discretion of course.  I wouldn't enjoy owning and using it if I thought some kid was heartsick about losing it.  All that stuff was in a bag cause someone was too poor to afford a tacklebox.  I remember getting started in fishing and spent money on a rod combo and a few lures but didn't have enough for a tacklebox so I used a plastic bag and one day I went home and left it at the lake by accident.  Came back and found it but immediately decided I would not go again without a box so it was easier to remember next time.

You may be correct, but I doubt it.  It was surrounded by beer cans.  The person got loaded and forgot their stuff.  It's pretty common at the reservoir I fish at.  I found an entire tackle box last year...it was surrounded by beer cans and a marijuana pipe.

The other thing...if you can't afford a tackle box, why do you by a $90 reel?  It was 6:30 in the morning; there was no one there.

Ahhh, sweet!

I was wondering where I left that thing! So glad a BR member found it - I will pm you my info. so you can send it straight away.

Maybe put up a flyer at the fishing spot, so the person that lost it can get it back?
