Ugly Stick with braid?

Recommended Posts

I just got an ugly stick because I wanted a more durable rod. I don't mind the weight and the sensitivity is fine for me. I was wondering if it was compatible with braid though.

You'll be fine, one of the combos I use is loaded with braid and I have never had a problem with it.

Braid, or another low stretch line would probably compliment the generally soft action of the Ugly Stick.

I believe Ugly Stiks have aluminum oxide guides unless it's the Lite version.

what about the LITE version??

is it ok to use braid??

The Lite version uses stainless guides. Really, since it is only $40 I would use the fire out of it for a year or so, and then go buy another if I wore the guides out.

Thanks a lot everybody! I dont really use braid but its nice to know that it wont  damage the guides.  Maybe I should go out and get some braid though :)

ive been using braided line on my ugly sticks for saltwater for like 5 years now.. maybe longer.  no problems whatsoever.

i agree that it does help with the "generally soft action".

its a good combination.

no problems from me with braid on an ugly stick.  been doing it for years now.  but i think im getting old cause the weight is starting to wear on my wrist.  im slowly trying to switch to a lighter rod.
