Was wondering if any of you guys have had any experience with the Powell Max series rods? I'm curious about the differences between graphite and their Maxumfiber blank material as far as lightness, sensitivity and strength??

I just got my first powell about a week ago. It's one of their fiberglass crank rods. I love it! I can't believe how light it is. Haven't used any of the regular graphite rods yet but I'm going to get one soon. I've heard nothing but good things and the customer service is top notch.

I just got my second powell rod the first is the glass spook and trap rod.  I just got the swim jig rod and reviews will follow but so far these are the best application rods I have owned  thr spook rod handels large fish in grass with ease  .  I don't think you will be disappointed in any powell rod   

I have just about every rod they sale and love them all. All but one of my rods are Powell Max series. I just can't say enough about them, you just have to try one. You won't find any better for the $.

I use the powell casting rods and they are fantastic!!

i use a powell maxx spinning rod and have loved it immaculately. i would however not get anything over 7'3" if you're talking casting rods, they tend to become a bit tip heavy.  i really like the specs on the new Maxx frog rod.  hooo hooo ha ha ha hoo hoo. (thats a monkey)

so what's the verdict on the swim jig rod from powell?  I have been thinking about getting one.

I use powell rods and they are great!! Very sensitive!

Question on the power ratings of Powells...

I have used St. Croix rods and they are a little stiffer than their ratings.  That is, a Medium St. Croix is more towards and MH in many other rods.   A St. Croix customer rep and a local regional area rep both admitted this to me. 

On the other hand, my Powells seem to be in the other direction.  An MH Powell is more of a Medium.  At least if feels that way.

I know that the question people will ask is what rod is the actual standard.   I really don't have an exact answer expect that Loomis or Kistler could be the "standard."

I share your same feelings. I guess we are in the minority because there are very few rod companies that make their rods exactly "right" as far as power is concerned. The Daiwa Zillion line feels just about perfect to me as far as rod powers per ratings and a lot of people say that they are rated too light.

I have a 7' Heavy action Powell and it does feel a whole lot like what I would call a great medium heavy rod. The plus side to this is that you can really throw some light baits due to the softer tip. The 704 doesn't lack any backbone either. I have skied 3.5 - 4 pound bass across the top of the water with this rod.

I also own a Powell flipping rod (766 Mag Heavy) and this thing is a broom stick. I feel that it is perfect for its recommended purposes.

My friend has two and absolutely loves them. Says they are very sensitive and light. Plus you gotta love the look of them

I've got two 684C 6'8" Ex Fast action, heavy pwr rods and I now refer to them as my battle rods, they have pulled so many fish out of the slop. IMO they're the best rods in their price class.
