Strike King Rage Tail Shad?

Has anybody tried these yet? I read on the package that you should rig them weightless with a 4/0 to 6/0 EWG but it was not until I saw the video on ***'s site did I understand why.

Believe it or not, it's a topwater bait. I have to give them a hand, it might be a winner.

You can watch the video by clicking the link and hitting video on the right side on that page. Enjoy. :o

wow i have never seen them before   they are really wierd looking but look good in teh water  i liked when they showed it as a trailer for a jig

The Rage Tail Shad is a top water and a dang good one at that. Yes, the tail is rigged upright on a 4/0 to 6/0 wide gap, my favorite being 5/0, and it can be fished in any kind of water at variety of speeds to achieve different action and noise levels. I did say NOISE! This bait rivals a buzzbait racket with terrific water movement and splash. It also moves side to side which I think is one of the reasons why the fish like it so much. Been using them since I saw them a the ICAST last summer and they're terrific. I'm a big fan of Rage Tail products, they have great designs. FISH LIKE"EM TOO.

x2 it is not a subtle bait at all though,it is very loud and aggressive. If you twitch it once it will make a huge POP! I caught a few on it the first day I used it.On some pretty choppy water,it was sweeeet.Use a 5/0 owner riggin hook or twistlock. :o

Just thought of it....I think this may be a good one to use at night. The sound and action is very much similar to a jitterbug.

Been there, Done it!!! Throwin the Rage Shad at night is GOOD TIMES.  No props or blades to gather the moss and grass and it makes the water move more erratic than my buzzes and I think it turns'em on. Or maybe we were just finding the fish on good nights. Regardless of the reason, I'm gonna do it some more.

I kinda consider them a soft plastic buzz bait.  I tried them once briefly in the fall, gonna try them again this year for sure.  The night fishing idea is a good one....

It isn't a lot different from the Lunker City Salad Spoon, which is one of my favorite baits.  Same action, same sounds... The rage tail is a tiny bit different, I'll stick with the Salad spoon for now.

Last Fall, One of my buddy's and I saw a gathering at the boat ramp and someone had one of the Rage shad hooked up and was throw'in it for the group. Everyone there couldn't resist taking a turn with it, me included.  He wasn't selling them or anything or his fishing partner would have bought him out cause he said it gave him a butt kickin that day.  I've been using them ever since and they have almost replaced all of my buzz baits.

They have better action than it shows on the film clips I've seen, alot better!

What color choice you go with? I can guess the black/red flk at night, but what about during the day, do you go with shad patterns as in the whites, pearls etc? Or more of a greenpumpkin, chartruese type deal?

I'm wondering the same thing...   8-)

I use two colors. white and green. They are reaction baits so I want the bass to react to the sound and get a slight look at the bait so color isn't a big factor. Get a light one and a dark one and that should do you just fine.

Also take a look at their Frog. It looks great to.

Shad patterns, white, grey and the silver or gold bling have been my producers in day time. Heck, I think you can throw any color Rage Shad at night and get smacked. When I've run out of the dark colors at night I would throw white or whatever and still catch just as many. I think it is the noise and erratic movement that they are attracted to and adjusting the speed of retrieve gives variety of both.

Lol, the "baitmonkey" got me, after watching the video from TW, I ordered 3 packs.  GD baitmonkey!!  Now I have to wait a couple months to use them, not sure how good they would work on the ice, lol.

They say to rig them tail up, but I have a pack and when im taking a good look at them you'd have to rig them with the hook coming in there side for the tail to be perfectly upward, is this how they want it rigged? Or is do you rig it under the belly like normal?

I think under the belly like normal.  If you watch that video clip real close when they show you the underwater shot, it looks like it is rigged under the belly, but dont quote me on that, I may be wrong.

I bought a pack at bass pro shops, but haven't used them yet.  another month i will be able to though.  its nice too hear that other people are having luck on them.

Here is how you rigg'em. Take the shad and set it on a table with tail upright, that's how it runs in the water. Place your hook in it's nose and bring your hook out just past the eye on bottom. Then pull hook thru as on a frog and re-insert it centered just in front of where the tail attaches. Push thru and expose hook on top or tail side of Shad. 5/0 wide gap works great for me. Chunk it and grab you $^#$! cause you're not gonna believe it. Well you gotta crank on it a few times first. THE REEL! Vary your retrieves to see the different styles of action and don't get caught up in listening to all the racket on quick retrieves. Slow it down to a slow slap,  and run it across everything with a big smile on you face. Have fun with it cause I have.

Forgot to mention that there is a tear tab that holds the tail to the body that has to be detached before you fish'em. Bend a rod!

Here is the hook up illustrations on Rage Tail Shad.  Remember there is a tear tab that holds tail to body that you detach to fish it.  Git-r-done

I think Strike King has a winner with this one.  I threw the Shad Rage Tail and I was beyond impressed with it.  YOu can throw that bait weightless a mile and burn it back to the boat like a buzzbait and it won't blow out.  This is really going to be a awesome bait for spots in open water as well as largemouth in heavy cover.  The best innovation I have seen in plastics in quite some time.  2 Thumbs up to Strike King!

Mike

So its rigged with the flat side up like the illustration? I would have thought it would be the other way. I may just give these a whirl.

Windy and choppy, I move it kind of quick to keep up the chattering noise of Shad but when its relatively calm I'll sometime slow it down to a walk and flop.  Being able to vary the speeds and action according to the conditions is a nice plus with this bait as well.
