I am a huge Revo S fan, my brother recently purchased an STX.  While he was visiting I tried a cast or two with it, and it is nice.  I am leaving this weekend to go visit him, and have challenged him to a "cast off"!!  My S vs his STX.  Same rod, line and bait.  Do you think I stand a chance?  The only advantage I have on him is more experience with baitcasting gear.  I think I can take him!  I will post the results.  So in the mean time why don't we get some predictions in this thread!!

I have a new STX and so far I am not happy with its performance. Just can't tune it to cast as far as my Shimano's without back lashing.  May be me or I got a bad one. Not bashing ABU, just my experience.

I don't know about that, I have a STX and I have no problem casting light plastics.  You cant go wrong with the dual braking of the STX.

I have a couple of both reels and a couple of sx's.  I will admit the stx wont cast as far as the s or sx ( I haven't really tried to tune it) but that doesnt bother me i use them for flipping and pitching plastic and jigs and they excel beautifully in these catagories. Smoothest drag available with out a doubt.

Betting on the STX reguardless of the experience.

My 09 stx thoughs weightless soft jerkbaits really well. In your case, I think the one who has their reel set the best and how much better you are at casting is going to be the bigger factor...

tooo bad you don't have an 09' SX in the mix , that reel will out cast them both no problem !!! 

I dont get the Revo cant be easily tuned bit. Ive used nothing but Shimanos for years. I bought a Revo SX and find it no harder to tune than shimano. If anything, it has more ability with the external adjustment. It casts lighter stuff and everything further than any shimano Ive ever had and Ive had more than I care to admit to.

You can't set up a Revo like other reels. Tie on your bait, set the mag brake to zero, THEN set the cast control cap so that you have to shake your rod tip to get the bait to drop, not so the bait falls on it's own. Then set the mag brake at around 25% to start with.

The cast control knob setting is crucial on a Revo.

FYI..both the S and STX that will be used are the older models.  My brother does have a new SX we might throw in the mix as well.  I think we will have apicthin contest too, I know I can smoke him at that!!

The results are in!!  Well for just plain old distance, the STX prevailed, however only by about 6-8 feet max, it was very close.  Then we did distance with accuracy, I won that one easily.  But that really is a skill thing not just the reel.  Next was pitchin, again a skill aspect, I won.  I think what it really boiled down to was knowing your own reel.  I could not cast his STX as far as he could and the same for him with my S.  I won also with 17 bass to his 13 total for the trip, however, he caught the biggest Largemouth and the biggest smallmouth.  Good times!
