Drag Slipping

Featured Replies

The drag is slipping badly on one of my steez reels, even if I tighten it all the way down it slips.  Its my Jig setup which I mostly kept the drag tight all the time except when I wasnt using it.  This reel has had a lot of use in the past year.

The warranty has expired.

Guess its time for service ?

I'll just send it to you RW and I know you will dispose of it properly.

:)

I don't know if that reel has a wet or dry drag but if it's a dry drag system and it was greased then it will slip for sure.  found this out the hard way on my revo sx.

Check your drag spring washers. They are probably starting to flatten out..

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

I'm sure you are aware of this steezy but thought I'd throw it out there anyway..If you have braid on it and don't have a mono backing, then the whole spool of line will spin on the spool with the spool remaining stationary, therefore rendering the drag useless...

Check the springs as RM suggests and make sure they are installed correctly...() and that they grease or oil from other parts has not migrated onto the drag. Let us know how you make out.

Yea, I know about that, its not the spool slipping, its the drag.

I opened it up and the spings were installed correctly (never opened since purchased new) but there was a lot of excess oil & grease on the drag components and shaft.  I wiped off a lot of the excess oil & grease and reassembled the reel and it works a lot better but not as good as new so I think the reel needs to be cleaned and serviced since its never been done and the reel is about 14 months old and has been fished a lot.
