Curado 50

My initial impression after receiving the reel was that it was a disappointment.  Didn't feel all that good.

After fishing it last night, I am amazed.  Aside from the few cosmetic differences, I would have sworn I was using a Core 50.  It didn't really exhibit the usual 'out of the box' sluggishness.

Spent the night using the 50 on a Kistler Helium II.  Filled it with 12 lb. PLine CXX, tied on a 1/8 oz. bullet weight and rotated between three or four different craw/creature baits.

Casting performance was excellent and I accidentally threw on top of a couple of boat houses due to not being familiar with the reel.

I'll simply call it the Poor Man's Core 50.

Man, I 'm confused, I don 't know if it 's Burley speaking or the BaitMonkey speaking after taking possesion of Burley 's body trying to convince me I need a Curado 50 ...... man I "need" another reel as much as I need a hole in the brain, of course, taking in consideration that I have purchased other reels and I haven 't even got the chance to break them in, they are still there NIB.

Man I'm trying so hard to resist pulling the trigger on one just yet...Do you plan on cleaning them to see if they'll loosen up a bit like you do with your 200 series models?

It won't be stripped until this winter.

Same situation here.  I just ordered one online.  They said it was in stock, so I hope it gets here asap.

After a few trips with this reel, I see no reason to buy a Core 50 anymore.

Ive never fished a Curado and I feel im really missing out. :-/ :(

Good reels.  I've got one and love it.  If you don't plan on throwing lighter baits, get a Citica.  You'll probably like it.

Thanks SoFla, Would this reel excel in say throwing weightless worms and light t-rigs? Im looking for a reel to pair up with my M/XF just for weightless and lightweight worms etc.

Guess I should clarify, I have a 200e7, not a 50E.

I've used mine for weightless rigs before and had no problems with it.

The 50E is supposed to excel at light weight baits and finesse presentations though.

I really want a Curado 50 for my light cranks. I am currently using a Citica 200E and if I improve my crankbaiting skills/catch rate, it'll be just enough to justify me purchasing a new reel.

I too never fished a Curado until I got a 50.  Very nice reel.  Still have my Daiwas and Revos, but I think now that I have fished a Curado, there may be a few more Shimanos in the future.  Maybe time to sell the Revos.

I have the Curado 50E and the Citica and Curado 200e's. There is a significant difference between the 200E's and 50 E's in there ability to cast light lures. I just wont use te 200E to cast cranks, even those in the Bandit5 100-300 series which weigh between 0.27 to 0.35 oz.

The lighter spool on the 50E when it is filled with line starts faster and there is less need to "force" the cast which can impede accuracy.

After years of being an unabashed Revo man, I took the plunge (again) and bought a couple of Curado E7s and man, they ared great casters. The 50, or two, is next on my list.

How does a Curado 200e7 compare to your Zillions?

I'll take them......seriously

I wouldn't be too depressed about that. Sure, it's a decent reel but nothing really 'special' about it.

Totally agree. Don't get me wrong they are great, but they get a little over hyped around here.
