Choosing a Casting Rod under $100

Recommended Posts

Well around $80 actually....I think I've narrowed it down to three main choices. St.Croix Triumph, Shimano Clarus (or Convergence) or Team All Star IM10. Gonna go with 7' med or med/hvy. I've seen a lot of great deals on the different forums on other more expensive rods that are being sold used, (not to say I wouldn't go that route either) but these are my choices for NEW rods. Input and/or comparisons on any one or all three appreciated.

IMO a Falcon Bucoo for about $100 is the way to go.

Also, keep an eye out on the flea market here, some great deals pop up  :(

Guess I should have added that I'm pretty old school when it comes to the newest split grip rods. I just like the cork handles with a cork fore grip.

Check out the Lamiglas Excel. Its cork, but it has a split grip and no foregrip.

If you can get over that, its one hell of a rod.

Solid choice for sure. Vendetta also a possible in that range...

The Vendetta is a great rod.

I have 4 Citica 200E, 3 H20 Xpress Mettle (great reels BTW), 3 Daiwa Procaster 100HN, 2 Pflueger Trion NLP, 2 BPS Extreme 05 size, and 1 Curado CU200. I already have rods out the wazoo and all are matched with a rod now, but some are old, just looking to upgrade a bit.

Got 3 Fenwick Techna AV rods, 3 All Star Classic, 3 Daiwa Team-V, 2 Gander Mountain 7' trout special, and a few other older BPS, Berkley, etc.

Would like to have new rods that land somewhere in price and quality between the Techna AV and the All Star Classic/Daiwa Team-V.

I've looked at the Eagle GT rods but am shying away from IM6 grade graphite.

Clarus > Bucoo IMO. and to be honest id add the Falcon Original over both of those rods.

I'm surprised that no one has recommended the Triumph. I know that there are several here who use them.

How are the Falcon Originals as far as sensitivity? Aren't these what are called the "HD" Falcons?
