If i normally get 12lb test of the yo-zuri hybrid, which is .013" diameter, how does me getting 8lb test in the Pline Cxx (same diameter as the 12lb yo zuri) make it the same?  the 8lb test is rated for 8lb test regardless of the diameter...right?

i would still use the same lb test regardless of the diameter right?

Nope. Diameter is what matters. At least when comparing line of similar materials (i.e. copoly to copoly or braid to braid).

Nope Pline cxx is thicker and stronger than its rating. I saw a test and their 10 lb. test was about the diameter of most other 14 lb tests and broke at 17 lbs. The way lines are rated here in the states doesn't have any rhyme or reason. In Europe most lines are sold by their diameter

breaking strength. Many lines, like Yo-Zuri, are

labeled for line diameter, not strength. For example,

Hybrid #6 has a diameter of.010", the same as

Ande. However, Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 has a breaking

strength of 11.9 lbs according to their website.

P-Line CXX is about 40% stronger than the labeling

indicates, i.e., #10 ~ 14 lb test.

Even this comparison with Ande is inconsistant.

Hybrid #12 is thinner than Ande (.013" vs .014").

For lack of a better choice, I consider Ande the

"standard".

Nope, the test rate is the minimum breaking strength the manufacturer guarantees you for that diameter, so you can expect the line to "overtest" ( break above the rating ).

Very true, if all fishing line broke at the rated strength we would break off a lot more. My buddy has six IGFA world records and when he's on the hunt for a new one he uses Ande.
