Expect this weekend to be one of the best of the year if you're headed north.  Fishin' should be hotter than a 2 peckered billy goat !! If you don't have plans, make them now and get out there.  I'm outta here tomorrow night for 3 days of FUN bassin' in Crow Wing and Aitkin county lakes. ;)

Hi Jeff ....

I wish you the best of luck. Will you be fishing Gull Lake ?

I had the chance to go fishing on that Lake when I was in St Cloud.

I just loved to go bass fishing on the little tributary lake (Love lake) between Gull Lake and North Long lake.

Keep us posted on your success ! ;)

If I knew where those lakes were I would be there this weekend. ;)

I have been up here for about a month and gone fishing once but with no luck.

Still learning the area and have yet to find a place to fish I don't have to pay to get into.

BTW, good luck on your trip.

Which Aitkin county lakes will you be fishing?  I've got a cabin on Wilkins.  I'll actually be up on Mille Lacs this weekend doing some walleye fishing.  (Hopefully some smallies too if time permits)

Good luck!

Where exactly are you at in MN?  If you are around the metro area I can probably give you some advice.  Let me know...

Aaron,

Go try Coon, Forest, White Bear or any of the lakes up along Highway 8 in Chisago/Lindstrom area.  They all have great populations of bass and you shouldn't have to pay to go to any of them.  Be prepared for lots of recreational traffic if you are out past noon.  Good luck.

Jeff

Thanks, sorry to jack the thread, but is there good shore fishing there?

The good shore fishing lakes I am familiar with are south west of the cities.  I don't know that area quite as well.

Ah, you are up by Palisade (and Gun, French and Fleming lakes).  I have land north of there too (where I hunt).  Anyway, to answer your question, this weekend I'll be on Clearwater (crow wing), Borden (just outside Garrison) and Big Pine.  Where are you launching Mille Lacs ?

Aaron, I live in Coon Rapids too.

maxdal, won't be doing Gull this weekend.  I have fished it a bunch of times though and my favorite is the south end (wilsons bay).  Gull is a nice body of water, especially on weekdays!

We will launch on the west side of the lake, probably closer to the northwest corner.  We're camping in the park outside of Onamia.  My buddy has been up there Muskie fishing all week and caught some 24-26" walleyes on muskie baits, so I am thinking we will do alright.

We've got 150 acres east of Aitkin that we hunt as well.  Small world...

Don't think I'm going outta town this weekend, but should be bassin' here in the north metro. Any word on some good lakes that are heating up?? I'll probably go to White Bear for bass/musky and I would also like to try Big Marine.

Ah Wilson Bay and the little island ...

Y'all make me wanna take the next flight to the Twin-cities and then head north to the Brainerd Area ...

Bonne pêche for your Weekend  ;)

We had a great time and caught LOTS  of bass.  Friday we got into a nice bunch of smallies and caught 12,  plus 7 LMB on Clearwater in 5 hrs of fishing.  The following 2 days we (my 6 yr old son and I) spent on Big Pine fighting the wind but still caught about 60-70 bass, mostly small with sizes averaging 12"-16".    Went through alot of *** today.  June bug was hot!

The big females are suspended and have spawned or are about to as best I can tell.  It varies over the lake a little bit.

I lost a couple nice smallies on Clearwater that would have pushed the 4 lb mark.  Kind of frustrating, but it happens.  They were pecking real light and most were lip hooked.  Only one took my son's grub real deep.  They would only hit tubes and grubs.

Water temps have climbed 9 to 11 deg on these waters in the last week.  The highest I saw this weekend was 71.1 deg.  Still some seriously good bassin' yet to come!!  They will transition to summer patterns over the next 2 weeks and then it's game on baby!!  I love the deep stuff best !!!

Glad you had a great Weekedn on the water.

I sure miss those MN smallies.

Speaking of MN, does any MN angler here fish the St Cloud area ?

That's one area of the state I've actually never drug the boat up to.  Are there some good bass lakes?  It's only about an hours drive from me, might be worth it.

The Mississippi river, between St.Cloud and Elk River is a very popular stretch for smallies.  Other than that, I have not fished any lakes around there.

Yop the Mississippi river right in St Cloud is also a killer spot for smallies. Right along the Riverside Dr SR and especially the big rocks in front of the beautiful Munsinger garden.

(it's been awhile since I last fished it though, it was still good 1 1/2 year ago.)

As for largemouth bass, I've only fished them in Twin/Sylvia lake and on Sugar lake.... but that's not exactly the St Cloud area.

I asked the question, because I was wondering about the many lakes in Richmond, or like  Bigfish lake, in case I should return at the end of summer.

Way too many lakes in MN anyway  ;)

No such thing! 8-)

I'd like to know more about shore fishing lakes in the SW.  Anybody else want to give me some pointers, as I am a newbie at this?  Thanks!

Oh yes !

First time I went fishing for bass in MN, we went out with the boat. We launched on one lake. At some point my host decided that the lake sucked that day. So he told me we were going to launch on a different one.

We basically put the boat back on the trailer, started the truch, crossed the road and we re-launched.  ;D

The lakes were like 100 yards apart and they were very very different from each other.

So yes, too many lakes in "Miny-Soda" .... everytime I try to locate the lakes I know on Google Earth, I get lost  :)

That's the best part, I probably have 30 lakes within 15 miles of my house.

No honnestly, MN is great for that ! Always some water nearby.

But you just never know where you want to go fishing, and 20 life wouldn't be enough to master all the lakes in 4 counties ;D
