Had 30lbs today and my dad had 14lbs in our club tournament. Our best 5 combined was 33lbs. I had 3 fish between 7- 10lbs jump off. My big fish i caught was 9.5lbs.  Lots of tournaments coming up, but

  • Well two days in & only 3 fish ?   But one was tagged BassCashBash which I was registered in, it won me a 2019 Dodge Ram!

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

BF, great pictures and info.  Thanks for sharing.

Sounds like a great morning Bass_Fanatic. Pretty fish!

Awesome shots. If you get a chance send more. I am still trying to figure out what I am looking when I see something. Some are pretty obvious, other not. The more pics (not trying to find out location) the better. For instance, the following picture was from a tournament a couple summers ago. In practice we caught enough good sized fish 4+ lbs to feel like we had found a great spot. Tournament morning we pull up and this is what we see. We are going to wreck them. Nota, could not get a bite. This is a lot different then what we saw in practice. Would you think this is bass or something else. River Lake.

Looks like either bass or whites.  If you find them like that and can't get them to eat, try a dropshot and a 7/8 oz war eagle jigging spoon.  Something will bite one or the other to give you an idea of what it is.  If it's whites, they are there for a reason.  Most of the time blacks won't be far away. If I'm on a big school of whites, I'll throw a big worm or jig around the outside of the school and can usually find blacks.

Funny thing was a little later, maybe 2-3 hrs we see several asian carp swimming 2-3' below the surface in this area. Could that be what we were seeing. We thew everything but the kitchen sick at them, and in practice had little issues at all getting the fish to bite. We really didn't spend much time fishing in practice because we would get bit so quickly. Still to this day I can't for the life of me figure out what went wrong.

Same thing happened to us in early August.  Graphed lots of schools and bait but couldn't beg a bite.  Told our plight to a local tournament angler who lived next door to where we stay.  He asked if the schools were deeper than 20ft, which they were.  Said those fish were just below the thermocline and inactive and would not bite until they were good and ready to move up.  Took me out on his boat and pointed out the thermocline on his 2D sonar.  Now I know what to look for.  Not saying that was your situation but something to think about.

This is all great info and pictures. Thanks.

It doesn't look like carp to me.  They don't look big enough to be carp.

fished yesterday evening and this morning with minimal results.. I made myself fish all new water. Found the best bite to be in the morning and after about 8 it got tough. All fish durning the day seemed suspended in 20 feet of water. My best bite was in 12 to 15 . The ones that were caught during the day were relating to timber. The lake is dropping and should get better in the near future..

Looks like the fish are here today, gone tomorrow.  Caught 30 or so Friday afternoon on 2 spots and could not get a bite on either Saturday morning or afternoon.  Looked around the area and its like they just vanished.  the area was full of bait and fish friday but could not even find suspended fish or even bait.   I did catch 6 between 2-3 lbs saturday morning shallow but Sat afternoon I struggled to catch 4, and 2 were spots.  Packed up and came home Sat night, probably get back at them next week.

My four months of grief are over!  I'll finally be there this weekend and every weekend :D

I fished last Friday from 6pm to 2am and only caught 5. So I can't tell where to fish but can tell you where not to go.... Jacks 944 lol. The surface temperature was 3 degrees warmer than on the main lake. The fish I caught were at the mouth of Housen on humps and ridges. All fish were caught on green pumpkin TR worm in 12 to 15 fow.

Hey guys, if yall get a chance, come to our 3rd annual Blessing of the Hunt in Deville. It's free and we will be giving away a 4- wheeler, guns, and over 100 door prize. And free food of course.

Has anyone heard or seen fish kills? I read a report of dead fish in the 1215 area and another guy finding an 8.5 lb'er struggling then dying in his livewell that had rejuvenate added.

Hey B-Fanatic, great screen shots of that school of fish.

Thanks Ronnie!

And I did find a 4-5lber floating dead in housen along with a lot of big shad, white perch, and catfish.

Yeah i heard of dead fish in Blue Lake area as well. Man that sucks. Whats killing the fish? Is it all the spraying they been doing?

Wish I was closer and could make your  Blessing of the Hunt  BF. Sounds like a good time

anybody on the Bend this weekend?  What was the water temp?

86 to 88 Saturday morning until 11:30 in Six Mile. That's all I could fish. Didn't get a bite either.  Looks like I missed the fish more than they missed me!

So we are going to the lake the later part of next week for a few days for my kid's fall break. It'll be my first time fishing Toledo Bend and really, my first time fishing a lake for bass. Down here in Houma it's all shallow bayous and marsh. We are going to be staying on the water just south of Wilson Cove. I'm on my second time through this thread now that I have my Hook-N-Line map and have some questions. Back in the first few pages (page 4ish) way back in 2008 Catt and others made a great study of Negreet around this time of year. Will that stuff still apply now and is the strategy the same for the bays and coves further south like Arnold, Yocum and Pirates Cove?

How about this amazing weather gents.... Now to decide, spend my weekend in the tree stand bow hunting or hook up to the boat and hit the lake. Decisions, decisions, decisions man this is a tough call.

Don't forget the squirrels!  Still can't hunt so went to The Bend. Fished from 7 to 5:30. Hurt like hell but caught 18 so it was worth it :)

Come on Little Fish...you can't just throw out a report of a dozen and a half bass without even a hint as to structure depth and bait. B)

Ha ha you're right. I was in a hurry. Here ya go... caught two on a spinner bait, two on a DT 10 crank bait, and the rest on a frog and red bug worm. Fished from 1 to 15 feet. Did the best on or near creek channel drops. Especially, the ones with pads. Would be fishing right now but I can barely walk.

There we go. Would have never thought to try a red worm.

I'll be there Wednesday afternoon until Sunday so will try to give daily updates. I've got my ACME Mapper all marked up and rigged up a RAM mount for my iPad on the TM base so I can WIFI to my Garmin to see the sonar from the front deck. I'll be in a Maverick flats boat with a black hull and white deck running around the south end.
