Just found this awesome thread! Will be heading to TB around April 3rd for my first time. I'll be staying in Rosevine Tx. which is not too far from Housen. I'm physically disabled & was wondering if any of you have any advice for trolling or fishing with live bait & where to go?

First of all, thanks Catt, and everyone, for a great thread.  I've been reading it for several weeks now.  Some buddies and I are driving down from Nebraska on March 31st, and fishing TB the 1st through 3rd.  We'll be staying at Fin n Feather on Housen.  This is our first time to the lake, so I guess I'm looking for any advice people have for a newbie on the lake.

 

From what I can tell, we're looking for grass and/or points near channel swings.  We've got rattletraps, deep cranks, spinnerbaits, dropshot, topwater, tons of senkos for wacky/c-rigs/t-rigs.  I think we have gear covered pretty well.  If anyone has advice on specific areas in Housen or specific things we should be looking for when we get there, advice would be greatly appreciated.

 

Otherwise, if you guys see a blue Lund from Nebraska that looks out of place on the lake, stop by and say hi.

Fished all day today closer to the lake. It was another grind with the watermelon red brush hog. Tried deep but nada. Caught well over 20 keeper size fish so shallow you would think no way. Only way I could get a bite!  Seen some bigger ones but couldn't catch em.

Same for me on SAN Miguel bass been super shallow for lil over a week, like less then a foot of water.

 

Had my limit of keepers in a hour this morning fishing caffine shad swim baits on a sand bar not for from the house bass were holding up in a foot are less of water on the sand bar running bait fish that were drivin up on the sand bar by the wind.

 

Then leavt and went it a peice of shoreline that has some flooded buck brush that hasn't produced a fish in two weeks pulled up and in twenty mints had six bass landed that were 4 to 6.4 pounds all on the frog, everyone of those fish were super heavy with eggs but didn't show any signs of had been making beds.

Blaster is wearing them out!! Good for you. My son loves to throw a Spro frog but you have been doing more damage with a Ribbit if I am correct. Have you tried a Spro Frog?

Yes I have two Spro frogs a white one and a black one.

 

I do fish them but normally only in mid summer around very thick grass mats but even then I don't seem to get as many bites as I do with the ribbet frog.

 

To be honest if I feel I need a frog that floats and I can pop it along I just put on a top toad or popping toad made by stanely.

 

Black and red flake when it's sunny and white and chartreuse feet when it's cloudy.

 

 

I will have a report on how the spro / equivalent works next week.  I am a spro junkie and am unable to stop myself from using it as my primary....i start fishing this sunday and will have a report by end of next week.  

Have any of you tried the Super Toad? Or rage bug mag?

Anybody fishing the LOBI this weekend ?

Looking at the weather report, I have a new question for our first day of fishing.  What do the fish do in TB when there's a downpour?  Is it worth it to try to deal with the rain and get out there, or do they shut off during a hard rain?

I would say stay in when it's pouring down lol, that way there is more for me.

 

Yea they will bite in a rain, frog bite is normally stupid good in the rain.

 

Just becarful and mind the wind and lighting.

I agree the lightning is what concerns me the most when fishing in rainy conditions. I have heard tales about fishing in electrical storms and the fishing line would not sink.

Didn't catch as many big ones today, but still had 2 over 8lbs with some 3- 4s mixed in.

I see my island behind you in that pic.

So what happens when the Bend gets hit by 2+ inches of rain in a day?  how much does the water level rise?  Any tidbits people have picked up around what happens to the fish after an event like this?  I will report back with my results.
