For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports

No, it is not the entire lake. Only where it's posted which is pretty much just the two main coves.

Sign at ramp said after labor day skiing was over and no wake in lake. (Unless I misunderstood)

Here are some pictures and the video from the giant I caught at LaCygne this weekend. She weighed 10 ls 15 oz and released to fight another day.

Fished LaCygne Sunday- I started up lake and noticed quite a few boats in the river section. I pitched flooded brush and water willows for a while ending up with one fish about 2lbs.

Okay that part about after Labor Day may be true...don't really remember the exact regs on wake. But the lake is plenty navigable by idling/ trolling motor and there's no real need to be wide open at all. I find myself rigging/organizing in the 2 minute ride from the west launch to the homes cove anyway.

Yeah it takes maybe 5 minutes to do a true no wake idle from the ramp to as far as you can go up either arm, probably not that long. You can always just put the trolling motor down and catch fish all the way around the lake as well. Coty and I couldn't keep them away from a baby brush hog when we were out there for the tournament. Color apparently didn't matter either as I was catching them on Killer Blue and he was using Watermelon Purple and they didn't seem to show a preference to either. In just the 3 hours during the tournament we had out there we had 3 fish over 18" caught, one was the 4.5 already posted, plus one almost 4 caught by Chris and Coty had the big bass of the night that was just shy of 5. I believe all 3 of them were caught on topwater also, hard to complain about that :)

I wish. Mine came on a Lake Fork creature that night. I took my dad out this past Sunday for his first time and he fished a spinnerbait, a tube jig (rigged from my Melvern trip already), and a T-rigged worm, all of which caught fish. Just goes to show that yeah, Lone Star fish are not too picky. But that being said, the bigger fish I've caught came in the morning and in the evening. The afternoons I've fished produce the usual LS 13-16" fish. They are abundant and accessible for all and it's a killer little spot. If you put in a few trips you'll stumble across one (or a few) of the many 3-4-5# that are still all swimming.

The way I understand it is between the no wake bouys (middle of the lake and into the west cove) you can go as fast as you want. I've seen it.  I think that they want people to quit skiiing and swimming after labor day.

Excellent work Brian... lure everybody out to Lone Star so we can slip out to Melvern and have the lake to ourselves...  :hello:  :hello:

Well Chris came over to help with the boat last night.  It was the steering cable so thank you for pointing us in the right direction Ranger.  Once we got the steering cable out, we cleaned the tube, installed a Cable Buddy and put the tube back in.  Now the motor turns with ease.  That sure sounds a lot easier than it really was... I think Chris can attest to that.

Now I just have to get out and use it to make sure  ;).  I plan on heading out fishing Friday afternoon to fish.   I was thinking about heading back to Leavenworth but Brian is being a good salesman for Lonestar.

Thanks again for your help last night Chris!

If you end up getting out give me a shout. I'll probably be out shortly after 4:30.

Will do.  PM me your phone number and I will let you know.

What he left out is we took the motor off the transom and moved it over 10 inches to make it easier to work on, that was the easy part getting it to line back up was the fun part! Glad to help ya out!! It was a long drive over to Docs place :)1.8 miles...

Don't forget about the "wrench" we had to rig up!

For those of you that are going to be at Miola tomorrow.

I was out there this morning, yesterday, whatever you want to call it at this time in the morning. Water was 71 degrees, felt a lot colder when I was unloading the boat. Caught a fish my first cast off the pier by the ramp on a Californian Pit Boss, couple more right by the ramp on a Baby Gill Big Head Wobbler. Nothing on a spinnerbait, buzzbait, trap, jig, or frog. Couldn't catch one flipping into the weeds either. Saw a lot of movement in the weeds but it always turned out to be a carp. The Baby Gill and Pit Boss were the best deal for me, caught a few on a squarebill too. The docks were surprisingly unproductive, but that might just be because it was cloudy so there was no reason for them to be under the docks. Went way up the creek at the north end, looks good, fish I caught were FAT and healthy, just not many of them. Good water in that creek though, 2-3.5 feet as far as I went back there with lots of laydowns and undercut banks. Didn't cover as much water as I wanted to, never made it to the dam and I was running with the trolling motor on 5 most of the morning just trying to look around. Was hoping to try to look for some deeper stuff but ran out of time. Didn't catch many but the ones I caught were healthy and choking the bait. I think a popper would have worked well but I never slowed down enough to fish one.

Call me stupid for not offering this before but I have a rod that I am selling.  It is a G. Loomis GL2 spinning rod. Model GL2 802S JWR.  Here is a link to the posted ad on the Flea Market Forum:

Since I wouldn't have to ship it if someone from KC bought it, I will let it go to one of you guys for $120!

The best birthday gift to you on Monday, would be giving that rod to me for mine on Tuesday.

Actually I just had someone snag the offer so the rod is sold.

Taking my annual trip to Pomme de Terre next weekend to reconnect with my Northern roots and chase some Muskies.

Last year was an excellent trip. Didn't see any 'skis, but did catch some nice LMB on 12" jerkbaits. Not what we were looking for but Pomme is a great lake with some healthy fish.

I'll be chasing Ski's in MO next week as well, but not at Pomme :)

For those that haven't heard already, 4 boats last night at Miola, 5 fish weighed in, Coty and I had 4 of them. RJ and 1strikeking had the other one that was 1.90 pounds. Coty and I had 4 for 4.94 pounds. We had the big bass as well, the biggest 2.40 pound fish I've ever seen, think I need to check my scale??

Hazel. Chris and I caught 9 up to 42" and saw several more in 3 days last year along with catching several bass over 5 pounds. Love that little lake. My buddy that's going with me has never caught a muskie so hoping he gets a hold of one. Only recent report I've seen was a guy fishing for bass that caught 4 muskie in 6 hours.

I really feel like it should be checked... If that fish only weighed 2.40 I'd be surprised... Maybe the drop chain on the scale got bunched up???

Man that is aessome! Glad to find out I have a fellow Musky angler among me here. Right on. Pomme's main guide report from 9/15 was pretty stellar and I think we are hitting it just right this year. I have a feeling we'll see some fish. Will be stoked to hear how yours goes also!

Last time I was at Pomme was in October a few years ago and they were really liking a black and orange bucktail and a silver and yellow bucktail, no love for any hard baits.

Yeah it's definitely a bucktail and topwater bite for the most part. Can't wait for that evening topwater explosion!!

PB caught at lone star today just shy of 5! Caught on a jig
