Went to Pleasanton Lake early hooked up with a few bigger ones than the previous week before, 2-3lbs on the north side bw the dock and the ramp, tossing a bladed jig or a watermelon CR Boss dog.

This afternoon I tried out Kestersen Lake (a.k.a Holden Reservoir)  Good looking water, hit all around but ended up being a big bust. Spoke to some other dudes at the ramp and it was the same story

What is the best topwater lake in the area.

I'm assuming you're talking about Pleasanton East? There's 3 different Pleasanton lakes.

What kind of topwater? I haven't had much topwater bite all year but Doco's fish are always willing. After that, it all depends how far you want to drive.

Frogging mostly is what I like to fish. But I will throw any topwater that is needed. But love the frog. 

Miola, Gardner, Doco, Pleasanton, like I said, just depends how far you want to drive.

Shore bound changes the game also.  They love a frog at Lenexa, but you may only catch small fish. I've had good luck from first light to about 9 every time (on different lakes) I've been out early lately, but not on a frog.

Thank you both for your answers. I would be fishing from a yak so I would be able to get on the water. I will have to try Lenexa out.

I've caught a 7+ out of there and multiple 5's before it got so much pressure, always after dark.

That's fine with me really. I just like catching fish. I live on gardner lake but want to try some different spots out.

Oh I remember, it was the lake I first got into bass fishing on and seeing what it is know is so sad

Nothing too exciting this weekend, but at least I won't have to be out dealing with the crazies for the holiday.

 

Hey all- I  joined the forum after being a long time lurker... I recently moved from Blue Springs to Overland Park and I'm looking forward to learning a bit more about fishing lakes on the Kansas side.

My dad came down from Omaha to see my new place, and we went out to LaCygne Sunday afternoon for a few hours with the intent of avoiding crowds and learning a bit more about the lakes offshore structure. We avoided the rain, threw lots of deep cranks and carolina rigs, but ultimately back tracked to a school of wiper/white bass/channel cat (?) On a main lake point jigging spoon bite, biggest of the wiper being around 5#.

Got stopped by both the game warden and the creel survey guys on the way out. Ironically it sounded like the only other boat out chasing bass had done pretty well fishing shallow.

Despite not finding deep water LM, the trip was pretty successful; I found some cool stuff and got my dad on some fun fish albeit of the wrong suit. WT 83-91.

La Cygne bass are some of the toughest in the state to catch. They do seem to stay pretty shallow for a majority of the year despite the heat or cold. 10-15 feet is about as deep as I can catch them regularly, and that's never with cranks or C rigs, although I'm sure they'd probably eat one eventually. 

I took my 8 yr old out bank fishing at Smithville Lake yesterday morning.  He ended up catching 3 fish.  2 bluegills and this really good sized drum.

He caught in on a little white crankbait on a 6ft medium action spinning rod.  It put up a really good fight that my son handled very well.  This was his first time out that he did not use worms or minnows.   Needless to say he spent the rest of the day rubbing it in that he caught bigger fish than I did.  

Quick trip to Olathe this morning to try to get revenge on the fish that wouldn't eat a flipping bait last time I was out there. Caught a 2.10 first flip just shy of 18". Flipped a frog into a hole in the grass 2 cast later and caught a 18.25" that went 3lb 5oz.

Only frog bite I had. Caught some flipping, some on a wobbler, baby brush hog, and a jig. Biggest 5 right around 13 pounds, almost all solid Olathe fish, but I was working for them and there was no real solid pattern. It was still a good time. I don't mind grinding when it's a good fish every time I set the hook. 

I hit Middle Creek yesterday evening. I caught one 15" fish pretty quickly on a beaver and that was the high water mark for the evening. I had a few short strikes on a swim jig before getting a 5# channel... I'm guessing we're right up against the defensive portions of the catfish spawn for how many of these guys have been showing up on winding baits for me...

Hit Lake Miola last friday morning in the kayak.  Did pretty well along the d**n using a ned jig with candy red frog legs caught mostly bass around 1lb.  Caught two saugeyes dragging a worm carolina style from the grass on the east side.  And then the biggest and most fun in the kayak was a 4lb wiper using a bladed jig.  

Wont be around next week, will be down in Grand Isle bringing in some redfish and speckled trout.

Lone Star was fun Thursday night.  While Brian was playing around with the dinks, I landed a 4-2 on a YUM wooly bug.  Fishing was pretty tough for @Doc-Drew and I as I don't think we had 25 fish between us, but we probably had over 11 pounds with our best five.

Took a trip to Mound City today, GoPro ran out of space midway through the day so no great video to post. It was a grind all day but caught consistent quality from start to finish. Best 5 went for just under 15lbs. Micah caught the big fish early on a buzz frog. It was easily 19 inches long but only weighed 3lbs 11oz. Looked like it could use a few big meals. Things got tough once the sun popped out, had a long stretch where we didn't catch fish. Finally got back into them on the dam and around deeper grass edges with a shaky head.

No way, are you kidding?  I'm not that much of a badass.

If it hadn't been for the slammer fish at the end of the day at Mound, I would have had more fun at Miola this week.

 

 

There were assorted high jinks throughout the day at Mound.

Fairly certain our big fish of the day Micah caught on a frog was the same fish you caught on the slammer. Had the same big cull tag hole and was long and skinny.

Mine was on the huge brushpile on the last cove before the trees start to get thicker. It only weighed 3lb 3oz on my scale though. I guess maybe she ate a couple big shad or gills after I caught her.
