Don't know if you made it out, but I was out there today. I don't think they ended up getting much rain; the water clarity looked pretty good overall up until about a mile past arrow rock.

 

We found fish really spread out, but better fish were pretty shallow cruising fish coming off of hard bottom flats.

Thanks, just the info I needed. I fish during the week and can't go until Friday, but no rain in the forecast so it shouldn't muddy up between now and then unless something drastically changes. 

Need some advice.  I am going to Hillsdale tomorrow to fish and I haven't had a lot of luck there.  Where are some of the areas of the lake that you guys have success in at Hillsdale??

Last time we were at Hillsdale (few weeks ago) if you were fishing deeper than 5' you were too deep.

Scott's Branch is always a good place to start. Up past the Tontzeville/Gardner Rd bridge can be good but navigation gets tricky in areas too. 

Anybody been to Leavenworth State Lake??  Wondering if the water level is back near normal?

If someone invested time in that water prizes can be had. I find the lake to be an amazing swimbait lake. Huge shad out there. Plus, It's 45 mins from my house in Olathe. Once I get a motor on my boat I'll be taking it to work and going directly there to fish, post work. I did notice this year there seems to be less grass in deep water. I winder if the lake was treated?

It really is a great little lake that I’m lucky to have just minutes from my house. As far as Swimbaits go the farthest into that I have gotten is keitechs and they do tend to produce well. Personally the best bites I’ve gotten into on that lake was last Nov/Dec on jerkbaits. The size so far is bigger on average this year so I’m pretty excited for that bite to come back. Plus now having a bow mount trolling motor should help fight the wind that tended to make certain parts of the lake to challenging to fish last winter. As far as the weed treatments go I haven’t heard anything, but I do know that they are still extremely thick in the shallows. And I’ve seen them as deep as 10’ in certain areas. 

Melvern was a little tougher Friday, but still caught plenty to keep it interesting. Both of us caught all 3 species, plus I had a couple drum and a keeper eye.

 

Took the boy Thursday and caught a real nice one. My 5th fish over 6 for the year at 6.58 pounds on a homemade 1/8oz micro finesse jig.

Very nice bluebasser86!!!!   Went to Gardner Lake on Saturday for about 2.5 hours and we caught about 10-12 bass.  Maybe 1 or 2 keepers, but the rest were small.  The hyrdila was really bad, probably from all of the rain a couple of weeks ago.  We were snagging the hydrila down to about 8-10 feet, so it fishing painful as it seemed like every other cast we were catching that crap.

 

Buddy and I mostly used crankbaits.  I tried using worms and a jig, but caught nothing using them.  

Hit up Lacygne this weekend for a few hours and noticed the plant wasn't generating.  I spoke to a guy crappie fishing who works at the plant and he said it will be down for 6 weeks while they do some work to the station.  Bummer as that lake can be tough to fish if they aren't making power.

 

Good news is that the fish were up shallow and biting.  Dragging a jig and creature bait produced the best results.  Water temp has dropped to 78 and the shad are starting to get active.  Hopefully only a few more weeks until the big ones start to gorge themselves!

Is there anywhere in the Kansas city area on the missouri side to catch smallmouth??  I have never caught any and would like to check it off the bucket list!! Thanks in advance.

 

I have a boat, kayak, and legs so I should be able to hit any body of water.

None that I'm aware of. 

Maybe I should keep my mouth shut about this, but for anyone interested I think Melvern is back on the upswing.  A full day of tossing a 110 caught us a ton of nice fish.

Smallies on a whopper plopper are a lot of fun.

Yea we surprisingly didn't get any takers on topwater.   They would come up and smack it, but wouldn't commit to eating it.   Everything we caught was either on a jerkbait or dragging a plastic.  Had my heart broken as a 5 pound drum trucked my Megabass....had me going for a few seconds lol.

sorry when you mentioned a 110, I thought you were referring to  a whopper plopper.

Yeah, it's been good all year. The words is out because there's been plenty of tournaments out there this year. 

Lake Shawnee wasn’t exactly on fire today but with getting a late start and having to leave earlier than I’d like I’m pretty happy with the 10 or so that I caught. Jig & craw around cover was the best producer for me. With a spinner bait picking up a few smaller ones 

Has anybody tried Lone Star/Douglas County Lake recently?? I was over at Mondo Tackle the other day and a couple guys there were talking about how I should try that lake.  Any input would be awesome....

I haven’t been there but it is on my short list for this fall. Since you brought up Mondo and I recently broke my jig rod, what brands do they carry?
