"A tremendous smallmouth bass sample was collected at ___________ (I think we all know which lake, If you don't I'm not going to be the one to give it up ) Reservoir in 2014, which resulted in this reservoir being ranked 2nd for this species in the 2015 forecast. High numbers of young smallmouth bass were collected, along with high numbers of adults; indicating that this fishery is only going to improve."

They should put smallies or spots in Douglas, maybe they'd eat all the largemouth and turn it into a better fishery. Deep, rocky, clear water, seems like it would be a good option.

I'm going to love a scale that starts out at 8 pounds!!!

That is actually on kilograms in that picture, because it's supposed to weigh in pounds and ounces only. As long as they all start on the same weight! One thing I might suggest is getting some of the plastic, locking fish grippers to hang on your scale, much easier than trying to get the fish to hang on the scale and if they're on the hook when you turn it on the scale won't weigh them too.

I finally got to catch a fish out of my boat!     

 

Actually, we caught almost 30 of them. Sam didn't ask for his picture to be taken, and my fingers wouldn't work well enough to take pictures early in the morning. We caught largemouth and smallmouth, that's it minus a drum that I warned Sam he'd catch if he fished a jig very much. The beaver on a swinging football head, bladed jig, jerkbait, and a Senko were the main players for us. Lots of fish off the clay bank side too.

 

Sam's fighting a fish in that last picture, just to show he did catch fish, he just doesn't get excited about the little ones like I do

Got the scoop on new stacks on LACYGNE today.  I know a guy on the maintenance crew there.  He says when they get the new stacks fully functional the discharge water temp should increase slightly since the new stacks will burn of more emissions.

Clayton's recent Facebook posts have swayed me into making a Wolf Creek appearance tomorrow morning. Anyone else getting out?

Raymond asked me to pass this on since we have so many younger guys on here that also boat and fish in Missouri.

 

Missouri has new law that any boaters under 30 , must pass a boaters safety class. We are having an informational meeting from 10AM-noon at Mondo Tackle (14515 W 10st Terr Lenexa, KS) on February 28th.  Representatives for the Missouri Coast Guard will lead this meeting. Please, pass this on to anyone that you know that is under 30 that boats in Missouri. Also, anyone who wants to bring their boat can have it inspected  and  will receive a 2015 USCG approved decal showing officials, law enforcement and other boaters that your boat passed a safety inspection.  This is a non-punitive inspection and designed to educate the recreational boating public.

 

This is what the law states: : In addition, passing an approved boating safety course is required for all persons born after January 1, 1984, in order to operate any vessel on the lakes of Missouri. 

 

The next step after this meeting would be to take a Boaters Safety Course.  There is a scheduled a  Boat Safety courses on April 11 and May 9, 2015 at the Clay County, Missouri Annex located in Kansas City, Missouri North. We could possible get the Missouri Coast Guard to schedule a class in Lenexa, KS.

It's pretty time consuming, but more convenient than driving somewhere to take a test in-person. You receive your license in the mail once you pass. I can't remember if it cost anything, I took it three or four years ago.

The state of MO needs to do a much better job of making this law known to the public. The only reason I found out is because I decided to look it up on my own, as I'm the main driver of our boats down at LOZ. There are probably thousands of summer captains down there that don't know about it.
