Cyprus - Bass Paradise

Recommended Posts

That sucks ! Each and every country does have its share of morons  >:)

You said you're like 50-60 cypriots who fish for bass.

Although most of them aren't really C&R fishermen, is there nothing you can do ?

Like organizing yourself in a small Org, which would stand up for the Bass Interest in Cyprus...... Like B.B.C (Black Bass Cyprus 8-) ).

I have no idea what Cyprus' constitutional law is like, and was wondering whether it's hard for citizens to organize themselves in small Associations ?

The best way to protect the bass I guess would be to make the authorities aware that the Bass has a market value. With the growth rate the bass seems to have in your Island, it could be a bass fishing tourism destination.

What do you think ?

a friend recently got a 3.480 kg bass

Congratulations to your friend ... Would you mind showing a pic, if you can get one ? :)

@Island bassin : I hear your concern. But I guess the ones that just fish to eat as much as they can won't see any occasion to change their behaviors in the tough drough you guys are experiencing right now.... I guess they will rather take advantage of large numbers of fish desperately swimming in what's left of your impoundments. So sad, guess it would happen it also.

not the best pic but this guy was by himself and didn't want 2 kill it.

Beautiful fish indeed.

Nicely shaped bass !

Don't want to be a pain in the a** .... but be sure not to drag your bass too much in the sand ! It hurts them lately.

At least you still have nice bass in Cyprus.

Beautiful fish!!

I have to agree with you MaxDal. Bass have a protective layer of slime. It protects them from germs and bacteria. This layer can easily be removed by touching the fish let alone placing it on the ground. The chances of a bass dying from infection are considerably increased unless it is handled properly. If you are going to release the fish, then you do not want it to die in a few days from infection. Always hold it from the jaw and not the gills and don't let it touch the ground, especially during the hot days of summer.

Indeed.. a perfectly shaped and beautiful bass :) :)...

I went yesterday after work to meet a friend (Cybassman) in a nearby reservoir outside my town. We went to try some new baitcaster reels and some new rods.. The wind was really blowing.. 17 knots or so .. brown/green water and water clarity to about 11 inches we didnt expect much... During sundown my friend caught a beautifull green bass and soon after i caught this pregnant girl on a tradition bait for that dam,

Good job Lavrakos. The one I caught had a strong green colour (and a small size ;D - less than a 1lb !!!). At least they are healthy despite the bad conditions in our dams.

By the way... what is the bass record in Cyprus? :)

No official records are kept Lavrakos.

But: I know of a 3.580Kg bass that is 100% confirmed and accurate, and I have seen (but not caught  :) :) ;)) quite bigger ones in at least three reservoirs.

I have a suggestion.. why not creating a Hall Of Fame at the CFAA for the biggest bass?... anyways there are other matters now in need for more attention :)

Hmmm, it will be a great idea....way in the future!!!!! When people realize that C&R is the way to go. As things are now, to have a "hall of fame" could lead to the unnecessary deaths of many bass (and possibly other species) from people looking for fame (and keeping everything they catch).

Unless, of course, there is a clause that ONLY bass that were properly documented and PROPERLY RELEASED ALIVE count towards the hall of fame. Keep it in mind as a possible suggestion to the CFAA after we take care of the more pressing matters (ie the criminal waste of the reservoir water)....

I hope you catch it soon. You just need to be patient. Everybody talks about the one that got away :). It will just make you happier when finally the time comes that it does not get away ;)!

Is this the contrast on the picture or maybe my own eyes... but the surrounding of this lake (or what's left of it) seems pretty green to me.

The surrounding forests do not seems to be too much hit by the drough you're experiencing.

I guess you guys also have unforseen low water tables ?

Are those dams used for water stocking or for electricity production mainly ?
