Any Luck Yet?

Featured Replies

Just seeing if anyones had any luck out there. Im planing on going out  today for a while. A friend of mine who has been doing alot of carp fishing for the last few years caught 10 carp yesterday. Most were over 15 pounds and some were over 20! I know its not Bass but its a fish!

Hooked a monster carp today on a rebel deep crank but lost it.  Nothing besides that, threw everything and the kitchen sink.

I had success yesterday. I went to a lake over in Waterloo, IL. Water was 48, but it had been cold for several days, so the fish were not real active till about 4pm. That was the magic time. They moved up on the riprap after the sun had been out for a while. I tried to force feed them with crankbaits, spoons and jigs at first. Then I forced myself to throw a LC SK 100 jerkbait and fished it real slow. I caught 5 in an hour, biggest was close to 4 lbs. I refished the same bank on my way back to trailer the boat, but this time I threw the LC RC 1.5DD and caught 3 more. I felt pretty good about the day because it is a heavily pressured community hole and I have never really fished a jerkbait that slow before.

Hit my local ponds where most of the ice was gone on sat. and sun. Started out sat by going to BPS and getting my $50.00 accurist pt and noticed that they actually had a 4" Tru-tungsten swimbait in stock!, so I grabbed the only one that wasn't crawdad colored...it is baby bass I think...love the action on this thing (my first swimbait)

Anyway saturday was a short outing and the only thing that hit was a small Pickerel...on the swimbait...heh...but, I was mostly working through learning the new reel and rod setup.

Sunday I threw everything I had at them....and nothing..still can't get the skunk smell off :) But, hey! with how the weather was, I can't complain...beautiful day to be out doing anything after the winter we have had!

;D ;D ;D

Caught my first green fish of '09 yesterday.   ;D

No luck yet. I've fished from shore a couple times on lakes that iced out a couple days previous and there was a weird green moss-type thing growing in the shallows that looked bad.

Went out to one of my ponds on Saturday with fishizzle, threw everything imaginable (jerkbaits, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, dropshot, lipless cranks) in every area without a bite  :)

They just need a few more days of warm weather I think...or I need to learn how to fish  8-)

Shoulda tried electroshock, or dynamite.  They always outfish the kitchen sink.

2 hours of casting, one crappie caught by my 5 yr old ..

2009 scoreboard : 5 yr old son 1 crappie

Daddy: zero

Had some luck at my jobs private lake in Northbrook IL.  3 largies on Friday the 13th.  4 on Monday the 9th.  And I went out at lunch today and caught 2.  Spawn is just around the corner here.  Bass are already scoping out beds.   ::)

Went out yesterday and today, and nothing.

Going out tomorrow to give it another shot at one of my best farm ponds.

Heading out tomorrow to two places - plan on fishing deep.  One spot supposedly has had some striper holing up deep because they got stuck or forget to swim back after following the herring last year.  This is a freshwater lake that flows into a river close to the Atlantic - and they landed some ice fishing.  I guess it's 60 feet deep in one spot, hoping to get a spoon out there and let if all.  That or use a saltwater swimbait jighead to try to get some bigger plastics deep.

The other spot is pond that's been stocked with some Salmon, smallest beign 9lbs and some holdovers from last year.  Figure I'll go deep for bass in both places and maybe I'll get lucky with a monster salmon or striper.

Absolute squat again today.  Good news from the trip - 1) guy fishing with shiners had no luck - 2) guys fishing with crawlers had no luck, -so it isn't me and 3) saw a frog swimming around - seems early but I guess that means it's OK to start throwing frogs soon.

local pond that not alot know about. Threw everything for 2 hrs...nuthin.

Looks like tomorrow's the day for me.

Gotta finish changing the lures, and rigging three rods.

Going to try what was working last November, plus going to try some jigs.  I know nothing about jigs, but there's no time like the present to start learning.

Report tomorrow evening.

HOLY ***** ******. ;D  I went out after work to the lake that is on the campus where I work and I smoked em'.  I mean SMOKED EM".

Normally for Mid March in Chicago you could expect to go out and catch 10 bass in a couple hours.  Mind you the lake is stocked and is catch and release only.  There are so many LMB in there that I have never seen one caught over 3 lbs.  They are stunted due to overpopulation.

Anyway.....  like I said I was expecting to go out today and catch a few fish and be happy.  NO SIR.

At first I threw on the go to rig for the lake.  A 7 in power worm on a 1/4 oz. Gopher Mushroom Head Jig. 10 or 20 casts later not even a bite.

Just out of pure luck, instead of changing color or presentation a little, I jumped straight to the Lucky Craft Fat CB BDS-1 Aurora Black Extreme Shallow Crank Bait.  I dont often use crankbaits, only because there is no need usually.  The jigs and carolina rigs and texas rigs and spinners and boogie baits all work great.  Well not today.  It was all about the shallow crank.

1st cast....FISH ;D.......2nd cast......FISH ;D.........4th cast......FISH ;D.  In 30 minutes a caught atleast 10.  Not to mention that in that first 30 minutes I caught the biggest bass I have ever caught (ties with one at another lake) and the biggest out of that lake.  2 lbs 8 oz. ;D  Doesn't sound like much, but let me tell you for this lake it is...  Just ask Swilly78.  After a while I start walking the shoreline (I think I caught every fish in the area).  And its 1 after another after another.

I caught somewhere around 50 bass maybe more.  My thumb is looking like a just fished spawn for 48 hours straight.  Unreal for this time of year where I live.  GOTTA LOVE IT.

Anyway..... Good Luck Fishing Everyone 8-)

Congrats to you! Whats the average air tempture where you are? I know in Southeastern New England its still terrible because its still getting into the 30s at night. I guess when I asked the question I should have stated any luck in New England area, not that I dont like hearing from other areas of the US. Good luck!

went to a local pond last week (only pond i go to for years now) and nothing.....Went back on Monday and signs everywhere "Fishing Prohibited"  until April 15....They now stock it with trout and cant fish until trout season....The Bass might get nice and fat now though  8-)

Up to 9 for the year. Includes 3 caught through the ice fishing for Bluegills.

Got 3 today. Best one was 2.2. Jigging in small local pond.

Got this pig 1 1/2 weeks ago the day the ice left. It was 65* that day and she hit a 165 Sebile Magic Swimmer (natural shiner) I was throwing from shore. 3.5-4 lbs.

Since then, just a couple of small dinkers....

Hope to have the boat in the water soon!!!!

Caught 16 bass on my past 2 outings.  All under a pound and a half.

Still I'm feeling confident and on a roll!

I caught my first 12 bass of 09 today!! The weather has been awesome here in Ohio the last few days so I decided I had to get out. It payed off big time! After fishing for about an hour without catching anything, I switched to my panic bait (zoom tiny brush hog) and caught twelve bass. Here is the biggest one:

It still can get below freezing at night.  In fact last week we had a couple days that were around freezing all day.  Like I said its overpopulated.  We like to say that any knowledge you have about bass fishing does not apply to the Underwriters' Lake.  (The lake that is on the campus I work at).  :)  Things just dont make sense there.  I was catching bass in 5 feet of water just after ice out.  The water temps were just above freezing still!!!!!!

Anyway today was another great day.  Caught the same amount of fish but in twice the time.  I caught around 50 in 2 hours yesterday and today it took just over 4 hours to get around the same amount.  Probably weather conditions.  There was no wind today and much cooler.

I was still catching them on the same bait though.  The Luck Craft FAT CB BSD-1 Aurora Black.

If I could I would bring everyone out here the get in on the action.  ITS AWSOME BABY!  :D

You cant find fishing like this anywhere else in the state at this point in time.  Like I said before.... The rules of bass fishing do not apply to this lake.  We are still weeks away from spawn, and the water temps are still way below what they need to be for spawn and for what LMB normally like period.  But for some reason they are in water temps they do not prefer and are very active in them.

Got the first walleye of the year too.  On the same crankbait.  19 inches 2 pounds 2 ounces.  Not bad.

Well talk to y'all later.

May there be good fishing in your future!! :D
