Lake Erie BR gathering?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Anyone up this way interested in picking a day or weekend and meeting up in Erie this Spring?

We all talk about Erie so much, maybe it's time to do this!

I really don't have any days in mind yet, just seeing if there is an interest. If we do this, I'd say sometime in mid to late May or early June. That way we would have both the main lake and bay in play, smallies everywhere :).

Anyone?

id be really interested, but im a non-boater, and i am really unexpierenced bass fishing compared to most here, top that off, ive never fished for small mouths. so let me know! :)

Why not, Id probaly be there anyway :)

I have never been to Erie, but have always heard that May is an awesome time to be fishing there for Smallies.

What stage are they there then ?

Pre-Spawn? Staging for the spawn ? On beds ?

What type of water temps then ?

Sadly, due to the economy right now, I would not be able to make this one. Wallet is infortunately running awfully light this year for me to be able to make a road-trip.

It would probably be at least a ten-hour pull minimum for me each way from Long Island dragging the Ranger, depending upon where you'd be going out of.

Hopefully, another year.

in may Id say pre spawn the water is probaly in the low 50's.

there puttin the feed bag on thats for sure.

Definately pre-spawn for the most part.

There will be some fish on beds in Erie Bay if it's late May. Bay fish will spawn May through June.

Main lake fish will be on beds in June, some clear into early July possibly.

Here's the nice thing. If lake conditions are too rough to get out, the bay is LOADED with both smallmouth and largemouth in the Spring. An example, I had my wife with me a few years back on a day in Mid May. She is pretty much a novice, was just along for the day to get out. I located a flat w/ adjacent drop that was stacked with fish, both LM and SM. We were throwing jerkbaits and in 4 hours we boated over 50 fish of both species, from one spot. It was crazy. She even boated a musky that went about 35 inches.

I had a little streak in the middle of the frenzy where I boated fish on 12 consecutive casts. She wanted my bait. I handed her my rod, I took hers with a different type and color of jerkbait on it. I continued to catch fish, it was all about the right cadence and action. Once I got her dialed in to that, she went on a tear.

If we get some interest, I'm sure we'd find room for the non boat owners. I can fish 3 out of my boat no problem.

I would love to fish Erie around that time, but it would add another non-boater to the list.

I can PM some of the West Virginia guys to generate some interest.

I'm interested, I'll bring my boat. ;D

I am interested for sure if I am available on the date that is set. Should have any bugs worked out of the new (to me) boat by then.

Quite a bit of interest.....

I'm planning on being on a vacation week the first week of May. Maybe we could pick a day late in the first week.

Ok, week day or weekend day? I know a weekend would be far easier for most, but less anglers out  on a weekday.

Weekends that time of year get a little busy.

I'm all for anything so input please.

im game. where r we talking about launching from?! and whos got the boats?! because idk how far my beater stationwagons gunna make it.   lol    r we talking sandusky?

and i honestly think that the best game plans to just set a date. pick it and stick to it! otherwise itll become a lets please everyone match! wont work!    (trust me if being in a greek chapter in college taught me anything its that)

let me know! ;D

First week of May would be out for me. I am going to be at Pickwick on the BR Roadtrip.

SimpleJoe and all the WV boys will be there as well.

Forgot all about the BR roadtrip and I just found that my club is holding an open T that weekend at Pymatuning.

No go the first weekend then.

I'll pick a couple more days and get 'em up soon.

i am on vacation from work the first week so i will be up there for sure...ill be staying at my camp about 10 minutes from lake wilhelm so ill probably fish wilhem and maybe pymatuming Saturday and Sunday then goto Erie Tuesday as long as the weather is decent so hit me up if youd like to meet up...there will probably be 2 other boats with me  so there will probably be room for riders if needed

If the dates work for me, I'll run up.  I have the BR trip, some soccer games, and some schedule tournaments to work around...

I'd also be interested and will have a boat as long as I get this engine rebuild and there are no complications :)  Keep us posted on the dates

So when we doing this. I can't the first, second or third week in May. BR Roadtrip,Wounded Warriors Tournament down in DC and then a Club Tournament.

Leo,

Just saw this post. I'm in for any time after May 11th. I can fish one or two out of my boat. Sounds like fun.

Especially like to get speedbead & pitchinkid on board!
