anybody fish the ohio river and wait baits do you like to throw

It depends where I am at but, spinnerbait, crankbait, and flipping in shallower water. I don't know of a lot of deep water main river spots, but that is one thing I plan on trying to learn this spring and summer (so if anyone has some spots they wanna share, feel free). ;D ;D

Been living right here beside this river my whole life and I'm only just beginning to fish it by boat. So far I've had good luck with inline spinners, the Blue Fox Foxtail in all chrome with a white hackle tail and a little red trailer built in, size 4. Largemouths and white bass and even one smallie loved those last fall, which is the first time I had fished this river seriously in a boat. I'm fishing up around the Ashland Kentucky bridges and as far downstream as the Ironton boat dock and just beyond, casting to shore around rocks and reeling out to sea.

Inline spinners have been the number one lure for me in this river for years when fishing from the bank on the Ohio side below the Greenup Kentucky dam. Roostertails mostly, and they do catch some big whitebass and hybrids. Up to 5 pounds so far. 8-)

I have attempted to catch bass out of the ohio several times without success. The things that work for me in the lakes around here just don't apply there :-/. I usually put in at Aberdeen. I have had success with live bait and catfish. But, that just aint bass fishing.

The guys are right. Inline spinners - Mepps/Rooster tails are good for about everything. White grubs/twister tails fished on lead headed jigs. Spinner baits. And any cranks that look like shad or blue gill. I like the Berkley Gulp minnows on lead headed jigs too. Tried some vertical jigging last year with some of the new veritcal jigs with the hooks at the head. The Walleyes liked them a bunch. The local guys do well below the dams fishing topwater stuff ripping it at high speed for stripers. Where are you fishing the Ohio? I fish the Bellville and Willow Island pools if you would like any info.

Listen, take it for what its worth. Iv'e fished the Ohio river in tournaments alot and I placed well. If you want to catch those river bass throw 2 baits. Either the 3" tube in watermelon or green pumpkin or best of all the shakyhead worm in the same colors. The bass love the shakyhead so much on moving and slow moving rivers and streams its unbelievable. Try it and let me know what you think.

X2 on petesplace's post. They love a green pumpkin chigger craw on a shakey head, especially in that Powhatan pool!! LOL ;D ;D ;D

I live in Ashland ky I grew up fishing the river I have learned a lot from my dad he won't a couple of the red man classics on the river I always had luck with a watermelon seed 6' worm everywhere . Or if it early a buzz bait onttopp of a weed bed if anyone is in the area please pm me. And the fish in the profile pic is out of the river
