WAKE UP PENNSLYVANIA!!!!

Featured Replies

I can not remember the last time the fishing digest had something other than trout on it's cover! Bass fishing is the number one freshwater fishing industry in the country, but PA refuses to get on board.

For all of you that does not know we cannot hold tournaments between April 16th and June 17th! So there goes any potential for any major fishing trails like flw (bfl) to have divisions up here.

They also have drained several lakes in my area trying to kill all the weeds, cleaned the shores of all cattails fallen trees etc...I think they just want a huge mud hole that they stock 5inch trout in (the limit is 7inches) and sell powerbait!

Also, they have some beautiful lakes that are trolling motor only. I understand that it keeps the rec. Boaters and jet skies off, but it also keeps me off the lakes. Maybe they could institute a speed limit instead!

Just hate to see a horrible injustice going on In this state. Also the license fee is 22.70 and 9.70 for lake erie permit and another 9.70 for trout permit! That is for resident you can't even imagine what non-resident is!!! >;)

IMO they shouldnt do that to lakes for trout, who wants to fish a lake for trout anyway :-?? i couldn't imagine fishing anything other than streams for trout.

Let 'em stock all the trout they want.  The little protein snacks are easy for my green friends to catch.   ;)

Welcome RangerPhil.

I hear ya on the license fees. If it makes you feel any better, imagine this: I live in NEPA so I get a resident license, right across the river is NJ so I get that non-res, I'm a member of a club out of Orange County NY, and oh ya their early season TXs are in CT. $$$$ :'( On the bright side, there are lots of good bass waters in all four states!

License fee's are high, but I just deal with it. It's either pay or don't fish...

Electric only lakes... Heck, I love 'em. I even love the paddle only lakes, the only non-restricted lake I fish is Raystown.

When did this tournament thing do into effect? You can't keep Smallies on parts of the Susky and Juniata and I knew a bunch of tournaments got stomped out of those areas, but I didn't know there was a statewide tournament ban during those times??

NY State is catch and immediate release, artificial only until 3rd Sat. in June is what DVT is talking about, Nate.

I was talking about Rangers comment:

I never knew that?

Tournaments are off limits during trophy bass season April 16th thru June 17th on PA lakes. Trophy season permits keeping one fish daily 20" long. A one fish bag limit would not be very tournament friendly anyhow. PA is basically protecting prespawn/spawn times from tournament pressure/stress. PA's trophy bass season is more liberal than other states which denying any bass fishing until after spawn. I personally have no problem with the license fees in PA considering the tremendous fishing opportunities PA offers. My out of state friends pay $68.40 for an annual license & smile the whole way home thinking about the trophy fish they have caught.  ;)  It's not what you pay its what you get for what you paid.

Well that's good to know. I never keep or do tournaments, so I guess I never really paid attention to those rules haha. I get my moneys worth out of my license, but it has spiked in recent years.

yall do have some great fishin. i live in wv, in the eastern panhandle. i fish in the md bfn. so every yr i buy va non resident, md non resident/w tidal water, pa non resident, and finally a wv sportsman package. i dump a ton of change all around.

as for pa's restrictions of fishin on the susky i think they need it now. from what i read they need to be doin a lot more to control other issues. its sad that its come to restrict our fishin before they restrict all the harm bein done to the susky. so were at a point where everyone needs to work together to bring back the smallies. take a short break on fishin so much and control the influences on the river. everyone wants to point at someone to blame. remember when ya point at someone u got 3 more of your own pointin right back at ya. so theres alot to blame. but like i said everyone needs to start workin together or the susky is gonna shrivel up into a lil ol trout stream.

we have the same problem with wv game n fish mag. seems like its always trout on the cover. i dont trout fish, but some of my friends do. them trout taste good.
