I am going to become the youngest snow bird in history.  Due to some injuries sustained on active duty, I'm now very sensitive to the weather and the cold.  I'm looking for somewhere to go in the winter, from around Nov to Mar.  Ideally the place I choose would have warm weather, high barometric pressure at least 31, low humidity, and good places to fish.  I live in WV and would like to stay with in a two day drive anyway.  Can anyone give some advice?

Low humidity?  Well, let's see.  Here in Florida the humidity can be anywhere from 40% to 90% during your time frame.

For my money south Florida has the best winter weather.  It's a given that fish live in water and water produces humidity but I find it very tolerable in the winter months.

I'm no expert on fishing in the western desert states, but I've been out there and the humidity is very low.

I have family near Sarasota and a friend in Ft Meyers, is the fishing in those areas decent.  FWIW you could take me to your favorite fishing hole and never worry that I would catch a fish, fish hate me.

Gotta go with Florida. Best overall fishing in the nation. You move down here, particularly near the east coast and you're going to have a shot not only at bass, but peacocks, sailfish, dolphin, wahoo, snapper, grouper, bonefish, redfish, seatrout, flounder, swordfish, etc., etc., etc.

The weather here is better than anywhere in the nation. You can drive home within two days. And almost anywhere you live here in Florida, you'd be no more than an hour away from a major airport. And everyplace flies to Florida. Try saying that about Alabama.

Did I mention no state income tax?

My vote would be Alabama. So many places to fish. I think it has been voted bass capital of the US a few times. I lived in Florida for 5 years and yes the fishing is great but there are many negatives that would out way it. Yes they have no sales tax. However they do have astronomical property taxes in many places, Hurricane season and getting insurance on your home is ridiculous. If you read the news State Farm just announced they are dropping everyone and moving out of the state. My father in law was dropped after Francis and Jeanne came through and when he did get insurance the deductible was not a fixed price but 5% of the home value. 5% on a $500,000 home is $25,000. Gas prices are higher. Don't get me wrong I like many aspects about Florida but right now for the money and with the economy it just doesn't make sense. Also in AL you can get a lot of home for a little money. Suburbs of Birmingham would be my choice. Just a hop, skip and a jump from Lay Lake, Lake Guntersville, Logan Martin, Lake Weiss, Lake Wedowee and many others.

Hurricane insurance update.

I just came up for renewal.  If you get a "Uniform Mitigation Inspection" at a very nominal fee your insurance may drop as much as 50% or more.  My rate was $2775. and after the inspection the rate was reduced to $1423.  I opted to go with a new company and had no underwriting problem.  The rates from both companies were very competitive.  BTW the standard deductible for a named storm is 2%.

True State Farm has backed out of Florida.

1. 26' open fisherman with twin outboards.

2. 19-21' flats boat.

3. MONEY

4. Sunblock

5. High tolerance for the elderly, non English speaking people, illegal aliens.

SirSnookalot it just maybe the area.  My father-in-law lives in Jensen Beach.  They saw the eye of both Jeanne and Francis.  I pay less in property taxes than what you pay for home insurance every year.  I live in the Atlanta suburbs on 1.3 acres.  3,200 s.f. home that is less than 5 years old.  FL is still way over priced for what it is worth.  Just my opinion.  I like FL, love the fishing but can't justify the cost of living.

If you still want four seasons and short, mild winters you should

consider Nashville, TN. No state income tax, a prosperous business

community, state capital and big city amenities without the crowds.

As a fisherman, a number of lakes and two major rivers are

at or near your doorstep! Multi-species and BIG fish

are other attributes. If you like C&W music, well you already

know what that's about.

That's where I would go.

Well, I have 1.2 acres and my taxes are around $2,000 per year on a new (built in 2008) 3000+ sq under roof house (house 2300+ sq ft / carport 700+ sq ft.. Insurance is only $600 per year! Gas is not much different than Georgia, Carolina or Tennessee because I frequent those places each year. Don't get me wrong, I love Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Tennessee... but I also like it here and I'm a Florida native! Central Florida has some of the best Bass fishing in the world in my opinion!
