I only use Gamakatsu EWG hooks, however with most tubes these days they require a very large gap, and in order to get the gap needed the hook is too long.  I would like to know if there is a wider gap hook out there that does not add to much length?  Like are Owner's Rig n Hooks wider than the EWG, because they seem shorter for the size?

What does everyone else use for 4" tubes?  A 2/0 seems to be the right length, however I would prefer a 2/0 length with the gap of a 4/0, is this possible?

Not really a tube person(prefer jigs), but you might be able to use a straight shiner hook.  They have pretty large gaps without the link.  Again, not from experience, but just thought you might look at them and see what you think

Take a look at the Owner Rig n' Hook, they have a very wide gap for how long the shank is.

Or a gammy G lock.

Or an Owner J Bass

For 4" tubes I like a 3/0 Eagle Claw EWG or a 4/0 Gammy G Lock.

I love that G lock hook but if I'm fishing lighter line I go with the 3/0 eagle claw wich is much easier to set with lighter line.  When I'm pitchin' a 4" tube to cover I go with the G Lock.

Mustad makes "Big Mouth Tube" hooks, or something like that.

I've used them on tubes ranging from 3-1/2 to 4-1/2 inches in length with no complaints.

Don't know if they still make them but the mustad shaw grigsby HP hook worked pretty good the last time I fished a smaller tube.

Gammy EWG 3/0 here. not too long for a 4" Flippin tube. Works just fine for me.

Eagle Claw makes the SG HP hook.  

I prefer a 2/0-3/0 HP hook when fishing tubes.  

Gammy 2/0 Skipjack hook

Try the Sure Grip hook from ohioprolure.com, they are Gamakatsu shiner hooks with a soft wire keeper that works similar to the HP hook. This hook allows using a huge bite with a shorter overall length that will fit most short bodied tubes. 2/0 for small finesse tubes 4/0 or 5/0 for larger ones. Ohio Pro also puts the wire on EWG Superline hooks that work great for flippin larger tubes,creatures, etc.

The VMC 7316 wide gap hook provides a wider gape per length of hook than does the Gamakatsu Wide Gap hook.  The 4/0 VMC hook it just enough shorter to work well with typical 4" tubes, for example Yum 4" Mega Tubes whereas the 4/0 gamakatsu hook often will not depending on lot to lot or tube to tube variation in body length.

I will apologize in advance for going off topic.

I fish tubes a couple hundred hours a year and am always striving for a very high percentage of hook-ups.  I want the hook point to become exposed as much as possible on the hook set.

To achieve that I usually fish tubes with a weight inside the tube as not only does it provide a more erratic fall but it also prevents the tube from sliding down the hook.  I almost always texpose the hook.  In addition I cut a slit in the tube where the shank of the hook has to travel to maximize hook point exposure.

Put me down for the Owner Wide Gap Plus.  Excellent hook!  Works good on brush hogs and other creature baits as well.
