Does anybody have any advice for Kissimmee in October. I've only fished this lake twice, and would like some advice as where to start in the mornings, and what to use, tactics, advice, anything will help. I have a tournament in October, and would like to at least be somewhat competitive. I'm fishing against some guys who call Lake Kissimmee their home lake, and they are good, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Fished a BASS Federation Nation tourney as a Co-angler this past Sat and we caught some on topwater (chug bugs, torpedos) in Kissimmee. There were also some schoolers but you had to be in the right spot at the right time of course. Also heard that flukes were working well.

I caught my limit for 6.35lbs and my boater had a limit for a little over 8lbs. We got to our eventual spot at around 10:30AM so we missed the early bite. The first spot we went too was dead. Think we would've done better had we gotten to this one area earlier as they seemed to be there.

It was enough for me to qualify for the State Championship in Nov. on Okeechobee but not enough to get a check. I was throwing a Trap and a Chatterbait all day.

I live just 20 mins from Lake Kissimmee, and can tell you that the Big-K is the model ecosystem

where big bass abound, but it is not an easy lake to fish.

During the fall, I tend to focus on boat trails just outside the main river channel (on the south end),

"Jack's Slough" on the eastern shore and the "Brahma Narrows" (the pass between Brahma Is and the mainland).

If the main lake is not what you want try south of ST. RD. 60 E. past the lock in the canal system between the locks ,Ive done pretty well in some of river arms/creeks channels.Some lead into marinas, so on.GOOD LUCK.

Well I fished this passed Saturday on the north end of bhrama island, and man was I on the fish. I was on the lake for only an hour, and already ahd a limit, 4 measured and one 3lbder. Then when I went to move to another spot, my fuel pump decided it was time to call it quites. It took me 2 hours to get to shore. Well I'll get my boat back tomorrow, and will back on Kissimmee on Saturday. I'm going to try Jacks Slough, and the south end of bhrama island, and philadelphia island, and maybe s of the lock if I have the time. Hopefully that will give me some kind of game plan for the tournament. If anybody has any advice as where to try this weekend, I would greatly appreicate it. Thanks fo all the advice thus far, and I hope to return the favor.    

Glad you did well in Brahma Pass, but too bad about the fuel pump (it's always something).

Philly Point is pretty good, but is very popular and well picked over (they're released at Camp Mack).

Jacks Slough holds many hawgs but it consists of a myriad of hidey holes and they can be real tough to come by.

(Jacks Slough is where Luke Clausen fished to win the BASS Classic Tournament).

Also, don't neglect the boat trails along the main river channel (Kissimmee River) near Grape Hammock.

What should I look for in Jacks slough? lily pads k grass, and as far as the Kissimmee river boat trails (Grape Hammock), is that north of the lock, Lake Kissimmee side, or after the lock? I got the new full pump put on for me, and I went out this past saturday, and caught one good one at Philly point, and then went to the south end of Brahma Island and fished the massive lilly pads on that end, and didn't even get hit. It was hot, sun blazin, and I thought they might be up under those pads, but nothin. Well the tournaments this coming weekend, and I have a couple places I tried, and will hit those spots. I wanted to try Jacks Slough, but didn't have time to try it out. I don't know what it looks like, but plan on giving it a shot. What's the best time to try it, first thing in the morning, or when the sun is up, mid day. Thanks!    

What should I look for in Jacks slough?

Jack Slough is a broad, heavily vegetated flat (3/4 mile wide). It's chockfull of water lilies, maidencane, spatterdock and lotus,

and in addition has several different submergent weeds. Using the chart, select a spot that's fairly in line with the natural flow

of Jackson Canal (hence the name Jack's Slough). It's also a good idea to create a waypoint marking your entry point.

With a pivot waypoint, the next time you return to your internal waypoint, you won't have to weave through

a quarter mile of heavy cover. Keep your eyes glued to the sounder, and look for any change in depth (1 foot is enough).

As to time-of-day, I rarely begin fishing before 11am or noon, so I have no clue as to the morning action.

Grape Hammock, is that north of the lock, Lake Kissimmee side, or after the lock?

It's well to the north of the lock near the Grape Hammock ramp...the lock area is too popular for my blood.

The boat trails near Grape Hammock offer every plant species found in Lake Kissimmee,

including hydrilla and pondweed (peppergrass). I prefer to stay close to the main river channel (Kissimmee River),

but plenty of hawgs have been taken several hundred yards from the channel.
