Nice fish!  You're a brave man to be fishing in this weather.  I can't take it!

I'm a junkie....I needed my fix today, and boy did it feel goooooooooood

:D

hi everyone. I'm new to this site but not to bass fishing in NoVA. Just thought I'd introduce myself. Hopefully I can learn some new "shorebound" locations, mine are getting old.

Welcome aboard bass crusher, we go on first name basis here, introduce yourself and stick around

The name's Gary, I'm a Libra, I love long walks on the beach, cute little puppies, and big fish.

Been fishing since I was 4, obsessively for about the past 10 years, doing local team tournaments for the last 4.  Tackle junkie and homemade jigmaker when I'm really bored.

Shoulda saved that for the 1st date Gary!

Any pictures of your homemade jigs? With the way we lose them fishing brushpiles, I can see us getting along just fine  ;D

Sounds like this guy is gonna fit in jst fine.

I'll try to figure out how to upload some pics here.  All my homemade jigs are hair jigs for cool water.  I'm one of the few serious bass fishermen who has virtually no luck on rubber/silicone jigs.

Deff interested in how those look, all my pet fish have seen way too much of the same ole jigs.  Please show

Hopefully we can change that, there are a few places where they pop the jigs like they are pez! Never used a hair jig, in for pics!

yes it went up by 2 bass and 2 crappie today  ;)

And yes I am holding out!  ;D

  • Author

yes it was, were you out there today?

yea i was out there before the sun was up.  I had one bass on a silver buddy but he spit it and I snaged it up about 5 casts later, wish I had more than one.   I tried a kastmaster and had one spit it too.  I did hook into about 5 gizzard shads.

My fish count started today. I was out there for maybe an hour or so. So far one bass for the year ;D lets hope it doesnt stay that way for long. Got mine out there with Thai today on a 1/4 ounce bitsy bug jig with a bitsy craw trailer. Felt good to get a fish on my new steez/glx combo

PS: I just ordered three 600 yard spools of yo-zuri ultra soft, 8,10, and 12 pound test. They got it at Cabelas Thai incase you decide to order some

Nice fishin Thai! Way to keep the heat on during our little ice age ;D

By the way fellas the name is Paul.

"...tight lines..."

nice, Thai. You almost managed to make that fish look like a non-dink! ;D

A good pound and a half and fought like a 5! Hit a bitsy jig and ran with it!!

Gary, I just started tying my own hair jigs yesterday.... I need some help. I'd like to see yours, and then post up pictures of mine. Haha, welcome. The NOVA crew is far better than the crappy guys up in PA, NY, or FL.

Thai, a dink is a dink is a dink.

I dunno, I think thats a decent qaulity fish he caught yesterday all things considered. I wanna see some of you other guys get out there with 10 degree wind chills and even catch one that size. This is tough fishing and Thai is one of the only ppl brave/crazy enough to tough it out. I think my fishing partner Brent took that pic of Thai. Like I been telling Thai, this guy knows his stuff and knows where the fish are. He just doesnt go around posting on forums, and telling everyone.

I'm busting his balls.  I know he is a good fisherman.

Thats one more fish than I've caught this year.

Oh I know you guys are just messin with him, everyone is pretty close around here. I just think a dink has different meaning in the winter. In spring that would be a dink but in this weather and fishing from shore I think that one is respectable. Thats not to say there isnt way bigger fish to catch right now but I respect anyone that can catch anything right now when theres 25mph winds beatin the tar out of you
